Registering your children with the SS administration

I've heard of people not giving their kids SS #'s.  I have a few questions

First, I didn't know that was even a possibility, is it?  Two, will they be able to get jobs when they're older?  Three, will they still pay the SS taxes anyway or are you exempted if you don't have a #?

Yes, but a home birth would make this easier than a hospital.
Yes,  but if their employer complied with the SS, they would need a card to start. Also an increasing amount of rules about illegals involved with this.
Assuming they get a traditional job (90%?, 95%? of jobs), they would get a card and pay.

One possible approach is home birth followed by home schooling, including an apprenticeship or a plan for self-employment. It ain't easy, but could be easier in a community of folks who don't like the guvmint rules. Now where could such a group be?!?

SS is 100% voluntary, however, if you sign up its permanent and mandatory to pay. If child doesn't have ss# then you may not use them as deduction. work for yourself, then it don't matter. there are lots of contracting types of work to do.

So people like me who already have SS numbers are stuck?  We can't opt out, stop paying SS taxes, get rid of our SS #?

If you give birth in a hospital, there will be forms that you fill out to get a birth certificate. Somewhere in those forms, there will be a sheet that you sign to receive a SSN.

If you do not want a SSN, do not just leave it blank. Indicate clearly on the form and to the hospital bureaucrat that you absolutely do not want a SSN. They will give you strange looks and you may likely blow their mind, but make sure they understand. I have met a couple different people that left their form blank, and the drty bureaucrats applied for the SSN anyways just becuase that's what they do for everyone.

We plan on homeschooling our daughter and allowing her the decision when she is old enough to do so.

What this will cost you is that you will not be able to list your child as a dependent on your tax return. I hope I don't have to feel like a dumb ass when my daughter decides to get into the system after I paid thousands of extra dollars in taxes every year.

beware..as many midwives have sold out to big gov. They too will register your newborn with the state and federal goons.

I have a good friend (who had very good parents), was born in-home, was never registered with anything and has only a first name. BTW he is 32 years old and a successful home builder. I know others that have also been quite successful at disappearing from the bureaucratic bullshit. You have to do your homework but it is doable and quite rewarding.

Can one vote w/o a SS number?

Depends on the state. To register in Texas, you have to provide one of the following:
1) Texas driver's license number (which requires an SSN to get)
2) Texas ID card (ditto)
3) If you don't have either of those, check a box and give the last four numbers of your SSN

There is also a box to check if you don't have an SSN. I have no idea how that gets handled.

Here in 10ec, i tried once to register to vote and not give SSN, but provide other info, and they would not let me register, but I did not push the issue.

Some states are more problematic than others. In Arkansas, babies will be assigned a SSN when born, and failing to report a birth is a felony.

Ugh. I didn't know it was that bad, but that doesn't surprise me. Don't let Arkansas's reputation as a "red state" fool you. "Conservatism" here means Bush's "compassionate conservatism", which means buying into the whole concept of the "nanny state" that most people would associated with liberals elsewhere. Huckabee in particular is/was very bad about that.
