QuoteIs EDTA used as a food preservative?

Yes, it's used to bind to metal ions so they won't catalyze various reactions. But it's only used in very small quantities.

I wonder if I should start a thread called "Epsom Salt" and rave to Bill about the hundred and one wonderful uses of Epsom Salt (not telling him what they are, of course), and then give him several references for him to go on a wild goose chase to find out what they might be, and then tell him he's a moron because he hasn't memorized them all in the span of an hour.   Because it is wonderful, you know.  It heals in so many many ways.  I absolutely love it and wouldn't live in a home without it.  I think I have a couple gallons of it here now as a matter of fact.  ;D

oh, sorry...  i just had to...   >:D

B17 is banned in the USA. (it is a derivative of peach and plum pits.)

Folk sayings generally have an empirical basis. "Crazy as a peach orchard boar" comes to mind.  ;)

Ah, yes, but every teenager (or, sadly, adult  :'( ) with acne should know that it draws impurities out of the body.  In otherwords, pulls all that crap out of your pores leaving you with clear beautiful skin.  hot compresses of 2 cups to 1 gal water every day for a week and tell me I'm wrong... I dare you!  ;D

Or anyone desiring to quit smoking or other drug should know it draws toxins out of your body, so it will draw the nicotine out of your bloodstream therefore reducing cravings allowing you to quit easier.

Or anyone just generally wanting to do a cleansing treatment in general, it ^^^.

It draws lactic acid from your muscles, allowing them to relax if you are sore, tense or have a sprain or strain.

If drank it is an excellent laxative... rather than pulling toxins out to the surface of your body, it pulls them in to your digestive tract, and your body naturally floods your tract flushing them out...

again, the hundred and one uses....

Very interesting, thanks for sharing!  8)

Wow, I never knew you could drink Epsom salts?

I know that I tried Stanley Burroughs has The Lemonade Diet and he says to use Celtic Sea Salt because it is as dense as our blood therefore it has the ability to do a thorough cleansing.  It's a really neat way to fast and some people have stayed on it for 30-40 days.

I tried it with my sister and I was feeling great, it was day 2 of the fast, she was bitching and chain smoking so I told her to go home but she didn't listen. ::)  On the night of the 2nd day she said screw it and started eating so on the 3rd day I joined her for some pizza, then she went home and I never finished. ::)

If anyone wants the protocol let me know and  I'll list it but maybe the epsom salts are easier. :-\

No no no! Like Ivyleague Said - SPARINGLY!
Its not any easier - and if you don't do it right, or too excessively, it can be very harmful to your system.

And for Stanley Boroughs MASTER CLEANSE (I believe the "lemonade diet" is something different) you can use any salt without iodine in it (and preferably any anti-caking agent) - the celtic sea salt just had a more mild taste. The salt water will go right through you because with the right measurement, it has the same salinization as your blood - so your body doesn't realize theres anything that needs to be absorbed. It just goes WHOOSH! Right through you ;)

You should try doing it again Raineyrocks, its quite an amazing process and the benefits from cleansing are many.

I definitely want to try it again.  :) I just have to wait for the right time when I can get plenty of rest and someone else can handle the household stuff for the first week or two.  I have a feeling I'm a lot more toxic now then I was the first time I tried it. :-\

The last time I did it I was REALLY toxic - but its not so bad after the 3rd or 4th day (at the most 5th). You just have to get over that first hump - after that you'll be surprised how easy it is, except for maybe an off day here or there if you're doing an extended fast.

What happened with your detox symptoms?  I take thyroid medicine everyday should I still take it on the fast ?  That's the one question I could never find an answer for.

Nothing happened to me the first 2 3/4 days, I felt great.  I was still smoking cigs but only a few a day not 2 packs like my sister.  I want to do it for 30 days but that is going to be so expensive because I have to get the expensive maple syrup and organic lemons.   I bet I'd lose tons of weight too, that would be awesome!

I wish I knew exactly how long I'm going to feel crappy so that way I could get help for those days to take care of the kids. Last week I started drinking my green drinks again so maybe that will help me with the detoxing.  I loved the sea salt and water drinks they made my sister sick. :-\

Heres a recipe for a homemade green drink that promotes general health. It wasn't specifically designed for fasting or weight loss; though it may be useful for some in those situations.

PURPOSE: An economical way to add vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and enzymes to your body. Since it is in liquid form it is very readily absorbed into the blood stream. It aids with digestion and normalization of bacterial flora in the intestine. One glass per day for 30 days should cause you to notice an overall improvement in your health.

INGREDIENTS:

    * Apple juice, pineapple juice or clean, chemical-free water
    * any green and fresh (uncooked) vegetables.

Pour two cups of apple juice, pineapple juice or clean water (distilled or reverse-osmosis and carbon filtered) into a Vita-Mixer (or, blender, if you don't have a Vita-Mixer). To this add one to two cups of any green and fresh (uncooked) vegetables.

Suggestions: carrot tops, parsley, broccoli, celery, lettuce (not iceberg) comfrey leaves, mint leaves, dandelion greens, zucchini-peel and all

Start Vita-Mixer or blender and run long enough on high speed to liquify the vegetables. (5-10 seconds in Vita-Mixer, 2-5 minutes in a blender.)

Strain and drink the liquid.

Ooo! Good for you! That stuff is great - I always eat that after a fast. While I'm trying to get my matabolism back up I usually use that to supplement a meal - usually lunch. Its really good in Oddwalla's "super food" and the vanilla and almond protein drink (the other protein drink is yucky and has way to much sugar).

Eeewww, I tried a carob almond milkshake from a health food store the other week and it tasted like blended dog biscuits!  Don't ask, yes I've tried dog biscuits before but there is a sad story to it.
I have been using the Perfect Food for dinner instead of eating and then I drink it in the morning with breakfast.  People always ask me what it tastes like and I tell them; like freshly mowed lawn grass.  I like the taste.  I want to try Garden of Life's new powder drink they came out with, I can't remember the name of it but when/if I do I'll let you know. :)

Just the light diziness and yuck feeling for a couple of days - nothing too severe though, it quickly went away.
Have you ever missed a dose? How did you feel if you did?
I'm pretty sure you can... the whole purpose of the cleanse is to get your body realigned and repair itself. If you do it the right way at the end of the fast you probably wont have to take the medication ever again. I would talk to a doctor about it first though - a natural doctor. Theres a great one here in Concord. I'll have to try and find her card - when i do I'll post the info.
Most thyroid problems are due to an iodine deficiency. Have you looked into that at all?

That doesn't sound too bad for the first couple of days but after my car accident in '04 I've been on a lot of pills.  I tried to stop taking them cold turkey a couple of weeks ago without even fasting and ended up on the couch with severe body aches and a fever so I'm thinking it's going to be pretty nasty for me.
I've missed doses of thyroid meds plenty of times and feel fine the only thing that happens if I don't take them for a real long time is that I gain weight.  I'm anemic also so I do feel tired a lot. I don't see the harm in stopping them for awhile though.  It would be awesome to be medication free finally! :)
I have looked into the iodine deficiency thing but according to what I found out it has nothing to do with my thyroid problems because I have the autoimmune one, (Hashimoto's).
When we moved here I started going to a natural doctor and he told me to stop taking my thyroid medicine and sold me all of his supplements which really didn't help so I got my own labs done and I was severely hypothyroid so I asked him if he could prescribe me some Armour thyroid, (which they are allowed to do), and he said he'd feel better if I saw a "regular" doctor.   ::)Needless to say I got pissed because this guy and his supplements costs a lot of money .  I've gained quite a few pounds too and I guess it was from being off of the thyroid medicine for almost a year.  Anyways if you have a good natural doctor that knows what they're doing I'd love to know.  Someone else told me of a good one but she's in Manchester and I've never gone to Manchester yet but I can do Concord.  Thanks!

Sounds to me like you'd have to take it reeeeeally slowly. Cold turkey seems like its definitely not the way to go - you're going to have to ween yourself off.
The longer you're on the master cleanse the more your body heals - so maybe this could have a counter effect from stopping your meds...
It doesn't sound like you went to the best natural doctor... definitely check out the one in Concord. Shes amazing - I had a friend who was severely sick (I can't remember what was wrong - I think it may have had something to do with his kidney), he went to a regular doctor and they were baffled - about 10 tests and specialists later (and none of them could figure it out) he got fed up and followed his girlfriends advice to seek out a natural doctor. Well this lady got on the phone with him, listened to him describe it and instantly knew what was going on - and was totally amazed that the regular doc's didn't realize what it was. She advised him to take some herbs and a week or so later he was completely fine! The poor guy could barely move for two weeks before that! She didn't even charge him for the consultation! All that money spent on treatments and hospital visits was wasted - he had a diagnosis and a cure in about 10 minutes and it didn't cost him a dime!

Do me a favor and check out this site: http://www.iodinesource.com/ThyroidGland.asp
In the meantime try and cut your ingestion of flouride (don't use flouride toothpaste, stop drinking tap water), trust me on this one.

Wow, that nature doctor seems very impressive if you can remember her name can you let me know?  Thanks for that link, it's very interesting.  I never knew that being in a severe hypothyroid state could cause anemia, it makes sense now.
I don't ever touch flouride toothpaste and I have well water so that's good.
So do you think I should take kelp supplements along with or in place of my thyroid meds?    Thanks for taking your time out to try to help me!  :)
