There are tons of bigger issues, I agree but sometimes the little things can be important and forgotten amongst the "bigger" things and come in handy when the SHTF. :)

I'll add to the list out of my personal preparation plans.  Many are well suited for trade for the things you need.

*Garden seeds (non-hybrid, true reproducing varieties)  Stored properly, they will be viable for many years.
*Ammunition (for hunting, if you know people who are meat eaters) .22, 12ga, .30-06 and other common hunting calibers
*Gas, kerosene, oil
*Common spare vehicle parts (all those junkers will be handy, honey!)
*Firewood
*Clothing
*Medicines (OTC and your Rx) - watch for exp dates
*Medical supplies (bandages, needles, alcohol, suture thread etc)
*Books (your survival library may become a valuable trading commodity)
*Homeschooling supplies
*Food, water purification supplies

Learn a couple valuable manual skills that you can trade as well.

That's a great and well though out list! :occasion14:

Back to the original issue, I've bought and sold over 100oz of gold in recent years.  One company I've bought and sold with is Affordable Jewelry and Precious Metals (
Quotehttp://www.ajpm.com
).

Their spread back in the late 90s was about $8 per oz Au.  Now its up, but then so is the price of gold.  In every transaction I've made, they've been prompt, courteous and trustworthy  (and no, I am in no way associated with them beyond the aforementioned transactions.)  I highly recommend them.

However, in spite of my positive experience with them, I do check before making major transactions and look for possibly better terms.  Usually AJPM comes out near or at the top.  I once tried an alternate site, I think they were based in Louisiana.  They delivered the goods, but it took forever and their story about the delay kept changing.  I won't do business with them again.

Smacked down by the invisible hand! 8-) I prefer to buy from local sources in socal, but when I move next year, I'd love some suggestions from locals.
