State Health Program Frustrates Applicants

Some frustrated Massachusetts residents are trying to reach out to the state's new health connector program and getting nowhere.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that the state's new law requiring all residents to obtain health insurance by year's end has a lot of people confused.

A phone bank set up to answer questions about the new subsidized health insurance plan called Commonwealth Care is getting four times the number of calls anticipated. Enrollment is much higher than the state anticipated, with 140,000 already signed up.

One in five callers gets so frustrated waiting for help, however, that they hang up.

Currently, 10 to 20 percent of the calls are going unanswered. The questions are about coverage, such as: eligibility, benefits, and cost.

Many applicants are impatient with the processing of applications, which can take weeks.

The state has hired a private company to handle calls and by next week expects to have about 50 people trained to answer questions.

Yup. This is why I moved out of that shithole when I did. I signed up to the FSP in '04 but this was the last straw.

Wait, I just don't get it.  You mean if government offers something for "Free" to anyone who wants it, that lots of people will actually want it?  Is there a single politician that has ever heard of supply and demand?

And just think -- if Mitt wins the presidency, he has openly said that he will FORCE this same health "insurance" on every person in America.
