Fox in the backyard yesterday :)

David

I have seen foxes in the wild only twice in my life.  About 4 years ago in january in ohio, I saw two in a park field.  and about 2 months ago either a fox or a small coyote ran across the road while I was driving.  they are really hard animals to see.

I've seen several since I've lived here.  Very pretty.  Hard on the chickens though.

Aren't foxes nocturnal?  I remember up in Connecticut we saw them a lot and I've seen 1 in Delmarva standing on the side of the road.

I don't know about foxes, but skunks are certainly nocturnal! Or at least the stray skunk that's been running around this neighborhood for the past few months is.

I must be weird but I like the smell skunks give off.  I think raccoons, skunks, and foxes are nocturnal.

I've seen rabid raccoons before and it is so sad.  One was walking crooked in the middle of the road during the day and when I stopped my van it hissed at me and wouldn't move out of the way, finally he went off into a corn field.  My mom was with me I was tempted to run him over to put him out of his misery but I just couldn't do it.  The other time it was the same road in fact but a different year I saw this raccoon and cat fighting in daylight of course over the cat's water bowl that was left outside.  I knew the cat's owner so I called them and they shot the cat and raccoon. :(

The only reason in the world I would've have even thought of running the rabid raccoon over is because I've read that rabies is horribly painful, they go insane too and need water, water, water.

David

I'm not sure if I would have thought to kill an animal by running it over, but I think your instincts were right.  A rabid animal will die anyway, and can easily infect other animals.  Your neighbors cat would have been a danger to his family.

I saw a fox in my yard last year... if he comes back he won't like it.. my 'lady friends' in the coop don't like foxes.

All the chickens,or, at least the Guineas surround the foxes and run them off. I'm guessing the one we have seen twice in early daylight must not have caught anything that night.

I can't quite see Russell playing golf either.

There are fish going downstream of our dam here in Maine and seagulls were having a feast. Then these two bald eagles flew in and started fishing from an old pine next to the river. Where's a camera when you need one?!?!!?

You should see Russell in his plaid polyester golf pants....sexy!
