It's like lumber grows on trees around here.  ;D

A bit over-engineered, perhaps. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Make a lid out of the same lumber, and you'd have a good bear-proof compost bin.

The wood is free, except the labor. Actually easier to mill the thicker timbers, 1/2 an inch off doesn't matter much when it's 3 1/2 inches thick. It looks cooler than the 1 1/2 inch store bought lumber and stacks to make a sturdy structure with no fasteners.

At one time I had a logger assess the timber I have and was shocked that a large pine tree would only net me about 30 bucks.

Using an Alaska mill, or Granberg?

Alaskan Mill, I know I have an image on here somewhere of it.

When I bought my 046 Stihl I got one bigger enough to run the mill... got a 32 inch bar for it...   six horsepower, heck I could ride it to town.  ;D

Careful, now... with a creative kid who does fun stuff, that sounds like prime power for a go-kart!

Russell Kanning

is that the kind where you pull 2 boards out and harvest and add them to the top?

No, although that sounds cool... any place I might learn more about that kind?

I'm going to get Jim to brand it with his porcupine logo.  8)
