Step up your game.

That reminds me... we watched a video from the early 60's of a american forging company and no one was wearing any "safety" gear. Were they real men? Have we become a nation of timid people?

The guy to step up to is Alec Steele a 19 year old in England that has been blacksmith since he was 13. He came over here and learned from some guys in Mississippi.

He quit school at 16 to work professionally. He teaches and does his YouTube channel, which has really started to take off.

He makes some awesome Damascus steel hammers.

I went to the link about water on the anvil but first had to watch a Zillo ad about this guy with a lego room, here is a link about him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bS2Uj9z2UI

Interesting.

Back inna day, hammer bodies were soft iron, with hardenable steel faces forge-welded on.

That's beautiful damascus, though!

Holy crap! I searched for this thread to post a link of interest, but look at this little kid!

Thought I'd make a place to show what our kids are doing here in the Shire.

William learned some more about responsibility today shooting the 22 rifle.

:o :o :o

So... anyhoo... regarding smithing...

A local friend is interested, which prompted me to wonder about availability of smithing-grade coal. Turns out that Aubuchon has store delivery of bags, for a fifth the price of delivery from Centaur!

hey I am already "subscribed" to them :)

We went and worked a festival... he is proving to be a valuable member of the crew.

https://www.facebook.com/harrybrownsfarm/

His new shirt and a photo he took. He was excited to get to use a top end still camera.

Had his voice in my headset as he operated the switcher for a multicam shoot. That's me on the left shooting Wooblesauce. It was kind of like being inside an engine... standing on one of the subwoofer bass bins... vibrated me to my soul.

hahaha

I had my head down looking in the viewfinder and felt a heat on my skin... it was a fire breather 75 feet away blowing huge fire balls into the air.

William's first time as "Technical Director"... operating the switcher. Worked out pretty well considering it was the first attempt of this crew working together. The switching started off a little slow because they were using the same computer to run some of the lighting and they were having an issue with that software. But, once he had uninterrupted use, he did a pretty damn good job.

In spite of (or maybe because of) the imperfections... I really like how William video switched this.
