I did a bunch of research last year regarding branding 1 oz Ag with Phoenix.

In his defense, you try dealing with customer after customer, a long list of tasks you have to do stuck in your head and by the time half your shift is over, you aren't entirely sure that 1+1=2 anymore, not to mention math that involves actual thought.

Ummm, I have done that, working retail and food service, plus a whole lot more. Try spending 10 continuous days, 18-20 hours a day, dealing with constantly changing grid coordinates, frequencies, channel assignments, codes, call signs, etc. Screwing up doesn't mean unhappy customers, it means dropping an artillery barrage in the wrong place, probably on friendly forces.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for someone who can't make change.

I didn't really know much about Bernard von NotHaus before this whole fiasco, but I have to say that since I've heard and read his statements about the raid, I have a very high opinion of him!  My opinion of him went from semi-positive to super-positive.  He's a great guy!  Plus, anyone with the grit and confidence to stand up to the government the way he is gets my thumbs up.

These are some great ideas, jaqeboy!  Being atheist, I especially like the "Live Free" slogan.  "Live Free or Die" may cross into a gray area, as that could cause the coin token to be mistaken by some as a state-issued currency.

OK, I've got it! "Give Me Liberty!" (and forget about that death part again...) - a play on give me Liberty dollars.

I like the idea of depicting the Old Man.  Another good image to use would be a phoenix (see my previous post).

The Old Man might be constured to be a State of New Hampshire trademark, though it shouldn't & it sounds like the phoenix might have similar TM problems, even though I like it.

The terms 'dollar' and 'coin' are not the problem. My guess would be that since the statement read 'real money under the Constitution'... that this was not the first inference of that position. But the US Constitution plainly states that Congress controls coin and value. States may adopt 'tender' rendered in only gold or silver. I don't think the LD would fit the bill (pun intended) as it was not Congressionally, nor State, authorized.
If you travel to Funspot in the Lakes Region, your US currency is traded for 'tokens'. These act as quarters would in the various arcade games. If you travel to Las Vegas you can trade in-house in 'chips'... but to my knowledge none of the businesses have publically referred to these items as 'real money under the Constitution'. That would be fraud.

Yes, via the Federal Reserve Act and subsequent acts that they passed creating it. They just act as if they are powerless to it now. But the Fed doesn't create the coinage, the Bureau of the Mint, under Treasury does, hence their action (first claiming trademark violation, then this present action by their sister agency, the Secret Service, also under Treasury).

Referring to LD's as "real money" isn't a fraud, nor is it illegal.  Referring to LD's as "current money" however, is (which they never did).
