I don't know why this is so funny.

Damn, people sure get riled up when you mention moving anywhere other than New Hampshire.  ::) If we're so freedom-oriented here, why do we demand that people move to a certain place? I know the theory behind the whole freestate project, but why get snooty if people don't want to move there? Sheesh.

Putting family first means placing them in the best position possible for opportunities to succeed and thrive and be happy. A conscious choice OF WHERE TO LIVE that is away from liberty is, unfortunately, likely to seriously impact those kinds of opportunities. Uh, unless maybe you are King.

How much oil and natural gas extraction takes place in New Hampshire? More specifically, how many pipelines/refineries/gas plants/compressor stations are built in the state each year? I make my living inspecting components of these facilities. This pays better than any other job I am qualified to do. If I move somewhere that doesn't have enough demand for my skill to allow me to work my usual 40-80 hours per week (and earn the resultant paycheck) , wouldn't that negatively impact my family?
I don't mean to make a big issue out of this, but I can't believe that some freestaters can be so condescending. I can best compare my situation to a quote I read on this very board a few days ago: "To unclog a toilet, sometimes you have to stick your hands in the shit."

I am guessing it is because you said something about moving for fishing.
If you said.. you are moving because of your job you might not have received the same reaction.. Just a guess.

Well, the reasons I gave were true. I mean, I can work at my job here in Wyoming, but it means that I have to freeze my ass off in the winter and can't afford a better home because of the inflated real estate prices. Down south, I can work where it's warm, afford a nice house, and have excellent outdoor recreation to boot. I hope that clears up any confusion.  :P

And after a couple of years you'll have enough money to move to NH where it's cold, you'll be able to afford a nice house, and you'll have excellent outdoor recreation to boot.  8)

I've been reading this webcomic for a few years now. It's one of my favorites, but for some reason this particular one made me laugh harder than I have for quite awhile. Please look at it and tell me whether I'm just being moronic, or if my laughter is justified.  :P

I must be too dense to see the humor in it.  :(

I made loads more money as a CPA, but holding my nose got old. Everyone has their own priorities and tolerance levels. Good luck!

You may have a very good point there. And if things go terribly wrong in this country, it might be sooner rather than later (i.e. Hillary getting elected, a ban on all gun ownership, etc.). The last thing those Texans will see is the ass-end of my pickup heading in a northeasterly direction.

I have a lot of days where I ask myself if it's worth it. Such as, when I'm standing on a scaffolding thirty feet in the air with a fifty-mph wind and a -30 temperature. Then I think about it, and realize that I'm making this kind of money precisely because I have to put up with this kind of shit.
It isn't that bad, though...I actually enjoy it about two-thirds of the time.
