Just saw this photoblog of wierd bikes on wired:
  http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2009/02/the-craziest-ho.html

I saw that too. And I have to say, their software that automatically truncates URL files picked an interesting point: "the craziest ho" could describe several women I've known, but none of my bicycles.

Tim, here's a trike I test-rode - fully independent all-wheel suspension! Nice ride...

Austrian Steintrike Mad Max Evo 1 with fully independent suspension. Body shell available to make it a velomobile.

Oh, that looks really nice!  I've started working on building a tandem recumbent trike, but I need more steel and a pipe bender to make the rear seat.  Right now it is a rolling chassis, and I have the rear drivetrain and the front seat pretty much done.  Right now the front passenger can steer, but I want to run controls back to the rear passenger.

I designed and built an anti-flip crank guard.  I don't remember if I had installed it before the Liberty Forum, but I don't think I did.

A small carriage at the back would not hurt your back for carrying groceries. Where do you get this tricycle? And how much?

The Steintrike might be available from Ethan at Wildfire HPV up in Arundel, Maine. I wrote him and invited him to join in on this thread. His site is here: http://www.velomobiles.net/wildfire/index.htm. He's the lead promoter of velomobiles and trikes in New England, as far as I can tell.

Ethan writes back from recumbo@roadrunner.com. If you inquire, be sure to let us know what he quotes you for a price. I know the Steintrikes are very high-end and high-priced.

Hi Jack,
I do sell Steintrikes - in fact I am the North American Distributor, so
I'd be happy to help your forum-mate.  I will likely be ordering another
Mad Max (the fully suspended trike) soon, and it is definitely preferred
to order several at a time due to the shipping cost.

Thanks and regards,
-Ethan

Appreciate the reply, Ethan.

I might add a little side or back cart with wheels
so I can carry groceries & some stuff too.

It looks feasible.

Do we need a driver's licence for this?

Recumbent ReCycler

I often tow a trailer behind my recumbent trike, and use it for getting groceries, and hauling other stuff.

You don't need a driver's license to ride any human powered vehicle.

This is awesome. What a brilliant idea. Thankyou very much.

Oh, by the way, I'm in the process of building 2 more recumbent trikes.  I'm making them from mostly used components that I've modified for my purposes.  One is a tandem delta style trike, and the other is a small tadpole style trike.

you ride the bus?
Are you asking me?  I used to ride the bus, but haven't in months because I haven't had any reason to.

I wonder if the federal government will give me a grant to start a velomobile shop so I can have one.
