I generally avoid drinking things that I can't pronounce or that cost very much. I get a lot of pleasure out of a dollar cigar.  I figure a $10 cigar or a $100 bottle of wine should, at a minimum, provide an orgasm.

Well, to be fair, I think you usually have to pay even a prostitute more than that to get an orgasm.

...not that I'd know

That is funny.
Curious, do you guys have an open encyclopedia of beers beside you when posting, or are you just inventing the names out of thin air.  I am beginning to see why german is a hard language to learn.

Nope, those are just names I know from experience.

German is actually easy to learn. There are some rules to memorize (hey, it was invented by Germans!), but it's far more consistent and logical (again, Germans!) than English or the Romance languages.

I have the bottles next to me when I post. ;D

Empty, of course!   I had a Gerstenslager  once.  It was big and blue and I insulated houses out of it.

You can piss away the evidence, too.  ;D

I haven't herd the taxes thing, but I have heard that there's a federal limit on brewing only up to 100 gallons of beer per drinking-age person per household. Now that's a lot of beer. Not that I'd let a silly little thing like the law get in the way of brewing 101 gallons...

Homebrewing really is great. For anybody who hasn't tried it, it's really quite fun. After a couple of tries, you can get very high quality beer that will last and last (as long as you keep away from bad brewing habits). I might as well jump in and post a link to my favorite brew equipment and ingredient supply http://www.northernbrewer.com/starterkits.html. Northern Brewer is really well-known in the brewing community, and is supposed to have some of the best stuff out there. I'm fortunate enough to live right down the road from their physical shop, so I can get their homemade malt extract ultra-super fresh and have really fresh beer. If you do have an interest in homebrewing, I'd seriously recommend trying to find a nearby homebrew supply shop. It's neat to look at all the stuff and talk to beer guys :)

Here I sit with a bottle of Newcastle while the conversation about exotic beer goes right over my head.   ::) But I occasionally have a Lowenbrau, does that count for anything?  :P

Only if it's from Munich. Definitely not, if it's from Miller Brewing Company.

Heck, Newcastle is considered "fancy beer" by most people in my hometown. It's a matter of perspective. I'm certainly no purist about where the beer comes from, just interested in something with good ingredients that engages the palette. It's well worth it to me to spend a few extra bucks on some beer as long as it's going to taste good in my mouth, and the better the ingredient quality (and brewing methods) the better your chances of avoiding a hangover.

Last night I was drinking a double pull that my favorite bar in town made up. They called it a "Blackjack." It was poured like a black & tan, but instead used Bubblejack IPA and Black Hook stout (I think it was a stout...) on nitrogen. It's so cool to see the two beers stay separate!  :icon_pirat:

Honey Brown.  Poor man's Newcastle!

Now you know why some of us are trying to get as many roommates as possible  ;D

Little Minnesota can brew 600 gallons, I'll bet Porc Central can brew 1,000 gallons!

That is lot of beer.  :o All this talk is making me want to dust off the ol' brewing equipment! My new apartment has a great basement with a nice consistent brewing temperature.
