Slight setback... he had a reaction to the antibiotic, BP dropped to 70/40, heart rate up to 225, so he spent the night in ICU.

He's actually doing better today, he's lucid (and argumentative, but that just means he's 17) and has been able to eat some soft food.

I think he'll be going back to a regular room today. No word yet on how much longer he'll be in the hospital.

Penicillin almost killed my dad years ago.  It started as an infection on a hand cut.  He was given Penicillin, and ended in the hospital for a couple days.  Allergic reaction.
Glad he's okay, or at least showing healthy signs of normalcy.  It can always be worse, you just hope it never happens.   :)

Well wishes from me and mine (i.e. my kitty cat).

I thought the atheist contingent should be represented in the thread, too. All the best for a speedy recovery.

Spent two nights in ICU, then moved to a regular room yesterday. When I talked to him last night, he sounded great! (He didn't even remember talking to me the night before, nor anything from the previous two days.)

I haven't been able to get in touch with him today. He's been discharged, but no answer at home or his cell phone.

I just got off the phone with ThePug, and he's at home now. Tired and cranky, but not nearly as cranky as the parental units are going to be if he doesn't start taking better care of this medical condition.

Not being able to remember three of the last five days ought to serve as a wake-up call. Right, Son?

I'm glad he's home now, gosh I had no idea this was going on or I would've prayed for him.  I hope everything stays okay! :)

Thanks for the prayers, everyone. I'm back home and much better. I've been diabetic for the past three years now, and this is the first time I've ever had to be hospitalized for it. Between the ketones and the Phenergan, three days or so is completely gone. Among other things, I apparently told our pastor how important it was for me to get to Mt. Rushmore.  ::) I'm still sorting out exactly what happened, but basically a nasty cold snowballed with some high blood sugars to keep puking for about twelve hours straight, getting me very dehydrated and not particularly lucid. Then the deal with the antibiotic (which was unneeded- what I had was viral) on top of that... Ugh. It's been a rough week on everyone around here. Now I'm just trying to flush out the remaining ketones (lots of water) in time for a good Christmas ham- they tend to make things taste rather unpleasant.

Again, everyone, thanks for the thoughts and prayers. We've had a lot of people praying, and it's done a lot to give my family strength.

Glad to hear things are getting better.  I have a few family members with diabetes, so I can sympathize with the difficulty.  Even when you think you have everything under control, it can still sneak up on you.  Still, it sounds like you have a good handle on things.
