Is there much of a trade in gold or silver within The Shire?  Do FreeStaters generally (or occasionally) accept bullion in payment, or are US dollars still the preferred money?  I'm curious about low-value (guns, stereo equipment, etc), hourly services (legal, medical, housecleaning, etc), and high-value (real estate, vehicles, what-not) exchanges.

I accept almost any form of payment--everything from FRNs to Barter, subject to negotiation.  I offer preferred terms for precious metals and barter--10% discount standard for precious metals.

My services are:

Mediation
Security Consulting
Firearms Training
Emergency Preparation
Research

And I am branching into other services as well.

I'm also part owner of a wood splitter that is available for rental, and will accept precious metals, barter, and/or FRNs in payment.

I accept barter on a case-by-case basis.  I even list items/services I'm interested in bartering for on my company's website, so those looking to hire me can know to mention that they have or can provide something I need, in lieu of FRN's or other such payment.

Exact amounts vary depending on the particular case, since I cannot (unfortunately) pay my suppliers or my mortgage or such in anything other than FRN's, so I need to keep a certain amount of those handy.

I prefer metals myself, but its not always practical, given that my lines of work often deal with clients that I never meet in person (and emetals are under attack nowadays).

I offer (among other things):

* asset protection & privacy services
* Internet marketing & design services
* Misc. data security/data processing/IT services

Long story short, I'm not in NH yet, so physical metals aren't my preference right now. However, they will be when I move later this year! ;)

We were just starting to ramp up working on the Liberty Dollar here when the seizure occurred. The NHLibertyDollar website had just started signing up merchants, but there hasn't been much activity since then.

After the raid, a bunch of us got together and decided we needed to take things into our own hands. We have built ShireSilver.com and ShireSilver.org to help with that effort, although we haven't gotten a lot done yet.

Most porcupines are willing to trade in precious metals on an ad hoc basis. Some have made that offer explicit. Some want to "stay under the radar" so they don't advertise their acceptance.

Except for Liberty Dollars and those few who price their goods and services in weight, you generally have to negotiate the FRN price/value. Some trade at spot, some at spot plus X$, some at spot plus X%, ...

It's been my experience pretty much all 508 free staters in-state will accept gold and silver

in other words you could own quite a bit of it and be sure of your ability to spend it at spot price or better.  obviously that enables you to profit from increases in the price of gold or silver.  you will end up doing quite a bit of trade with other free staters once you're here and that can be in FRNs, silver or gold.
