NH is one of the States that is nearly compliant.
The changes would be having your picture taken at the beginning of the process, the identification documents (birth certificate, etc) digitally scanned and stored, and a new holographic addition to the DL.
The DMV by State statuted already 'shares' its database with all the other States and Provinces.

So one of the tell-tale signs would be getting your picture before the eye exam.

So ... did they put this off ... or are they going to set it up as originally planned in May 2008?

We know in NH that the DMV lady wants to set it up. Only way to be sure to avoid it is not have a DL. :)

I'm not sure if NH requested a waiver.

...Beginning May 11, 2008, says Homeland Security, residents of states that
have not agreed
to implement REAL ID will not be allowed to use their state
drivers licenses to board airplanes or enter federal buildings...

States that agree to comply may be granted extensions of several years to fully
implement REAL ID...

So apparently the five year extension mentioned on another thread applies only to states that agree to comply... while renegade states will be "punished" by May of this year.

No wonder this is happening:

The Granite State ID Coalition has reactivated due to increasing pressure from DHS to comply with their mandate.

Turn down the heat, boil the frogs alive.  Turn up the heat, they wake up.

Only problem is the obsolete but tenacious AMOG paradigm.  Seems these 'frogs' only wake up long enough to turn down the heat to a comfortable level, and never actually get out of the kettle.

If you want to ever experience a civilization free from aggression, the solution is to get out of the kettle: 100% withdrawal from the Authoritarian Model of Government, meaning not giving them any sense of legitimacy as the common criminals that they are, regardless of consequences -- while clearly and respectfully articulating your reasoning to the public in order to encourage others to do the same.

This means refusing to conduct uneccessary "business" with them in any way, shape, or form!  Just say NO to driver licensing and registration, government-issued IDs, taxation, Social Security and other welfare programs, etc. etc.  Do not petition them for anything unless you consider them your legitimate masters.  Do not turn to them for "protection" from other common criminals.  Do not attempt to operate or give input to their criminal/political apparatus for any purpose whatsoever.  Do not give the agents of force any aid or comfort -- not even the time of day!  This is what it means to get out of the kettle.  Stay in the kettle, and we all get boiled alive.

Get out of the obsolete AMOG paradigm now, and lead the way to freedom.

Got this from Joel Winters

Quote
Hello all,

Bad news.

NHPR reported Thursday evening that Governor Lynch is drafting a letter
to ask for an extension on the REAL ID deadline.  This is extremely bad
news for the fight against REAL ID, news which puts the whole fight
against REAL ID into jeopardy.  To win this round in the fight against
REAL ID, he must never send that letter.

Under REAL ID, starting May 11th, 2008, federal agencies are not
supposed to accept our driver's licenses for identification purposes.
This is the showdown that we have been waiting for, where the
Department of Homeland Security will have to admit that they can not
implement REAL ID and turn the people of non-compliant states like ours
into second class citizens.

However, the REAL ID Act does allow for extensions to be granted on a
state by state basis.  USA Today reported this week that 44 states have
already asked for an extension until December 31st, 2009.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-02-19-RealID_N.htm

We should absolutely be opposed to an extension for a number of
reasons.  There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.  If DHS is
offering us something free, they are doing it out of concern for their
welfare, not ours.

Another reason is the questionable legality of the extension - it is
directly contrary to the position of the General Court.  Both the New
Hampshire House and Senate voted overwhelming to opt out - period.
However, NHPR reported that Governor Lynch believes that this extension
does not violate the law that he signed.

Third is solidarity.  Montana and some of the other opt-out states will
not be getting the extension.  Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer sent
letters to many other governors, including Lynch, asking them all to
refuse to ask for extension.  (You can find a copy of the letter on
granitestateid.com ) This is an attempt by DHS to divide and conquer.
As Ben Franklin said, we must hang together or we will hang separately.

Fourth is the timing.  If REAL ID goes into effect this year, the
current legislature would have to act to repeal the opt-out law if
there is a major hoopla in May.  This would require a 2/3rds to suspend
the rules - it won't happen.  If we wait until 2009, a different
legislature can introduce a repeal bill that can work its way through
the process with a simple majority.

Fifth is that it's an election year.  As the presidential candidates
visit New Hampshire, a battle ground state, we want the citizens to be
asking - "What are you going to do about REAL ID?"  We want the
candidates to promise to repeal it.  If we wait until 2009, we lose
that national spotlight.

Sixth is even if it's allowed.  The relevant section of the ACT reads:
(b) EXTENSIONS OF DEADLINES.—The Secretary may grant to a State an
extension of time to meet the requirements of section 202(a)(1) if the
State provides adequate justification for noncompliance.

Having legislation on the books that has opted us out does not seem to
be 'adequate justification' since it's clear that we will never comply.
The fact that DHS is willing to wink at this makes it clear that they
are very nervous about a possible showdown on May 11th.

So take action! Contact the Governor and tell him not to ask for an
extension. Ask him to stand publicly with Governor Schweitzer in
defiance of this attempt at a National ID Card.  Remind him that two
years ago, he made international headlines when he promised to sign
opt-out legislation if the Senate passed it (they didn't.)  I don't
know how many messages it will take to fill up his answering machine,
but let's give it a try!  His office number is 271-2121 - call now!
You can find a fax number or email information at
http://www.nh.gov/governor/contactus.htm

This is the final round of betting in the poker game.  The stakes are
our freedom and our way of life.  44 states have folded, leaving only
New Hampshire and five other opt out states.  We cannot call DHS's
bluff if we drop out now.  Please, do everything you can to convince
Governor Lynch not to ask for an extension.

The Governor from Montana should be commended for his refusal to play the game. Maybe we should call him and ask for sanctuary or political asylum if the time comes?
It would be a shame for this guy to swing from the gallows alone.

I wonder what Governor Lynch is really trying to accomplish by asking for an extension? Is he wimping out or is there a strategy? Is it even legal for Lynch to ask for an extension since NH outlawed participation?  ...he's not a "decider" is he, making stuff up as he goes along?

Is it possible the FEDS would make any extension contingent upon NH overturning or amending our law opposing Real ID?  ...guess that would fall under "blackmail" ...so it's a viable Washington DC option.

I wonder if Lynch will go public with his thoughts...or agree to an interview?

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day that a Free Stater politician recognizes the strategic advantage of turning up the heat on the 'frogs' in the quest for ultimate freedom.

While I have moral reservations about tampering with the controls of the political machine in such a way as to allow tyranny to increase in the short term, I can certainly see the strategic long term advantage in doing so.  Far be it from me to discourage someone who does not share my moral reservations about turning up the heat, from doing so in order to bring things to a head :)

Today I spoke to Neal Kurk, one of the State Reps. that sponsored the bill to keep Real ID out of NH.
I figured he might know what was up...he did.
He had talked to Gov. Lynch yesterday morning about Real ID.

Apparently Gov. Lynch IS going to send a request for an extension. Neal mentioned the letter would indicate NH has no intention of going along with Real ID and it is a request for an extension only.
We discussed that the Governor may be doing this to "protect" (my word...paraphrasing here) the citizens from the Real ID hassles and to keep business in Manchester, NH rather than Logan etc. at least for the time the extension would be good for.   I still question whether there is any reason for the extension since we have clearly said NO to Real ID in NH and whether asking for an extension is even legal... but I thanked Rep. Kurk and told him I appreciated the update.

In my opinion it's still a good idea to keep calling Gov. Lynch and express your opposition to Real ID
just in case he has any ideas about where "we the people" stand.

That doesn't even make sense; it only matters where the ID is from, not where the airport is located.

The Republicans betrayed you/us in the NH senate.
Now the Democrats are about to stab you/us in the back.
Seems they work quite well distracting folks.

When will we learn?
The system can not be saved.
