It goes something like this, "If we can just use the power of authoritarian government to rein itself in, it will finally function the way it's supposed to, and all will be well".

That sums up the unending loop nicely.

Yup.  Not so long ago I was banging my head too, for this very reason.

I now see a light at the end of the tunnel -- genuine daylight: All we have to do is connect with the masses at their reactionary, emotional level -- while ourselves operating from the higher, fully conscious level.

Since you and I tend to lean more toward the fully conscious mode, our natural impulse is to try and connect with the masses at the intellectual level.  Since most people still operate at the primitive, reactionary/emotional level while exerting as little conscious thought as necessary to get by, that approach is not much more effective than trying to communicate intellectually with a dog.

Identifying what actions and word pictures trigger what emotional reactions -- then consciously applying that knowledge liberally, is the key to unlocking their minds.
