"Studded" v. "Snow" tires?

If you're in Grafton you have the choice of:
1. Studded
2. Leaving car at the bottom of the hill and hiking up (assuming you survived the numerous crashes earlier in the day)

Several people around here opt for #2, which is yet another reason that subcompact cars are a false economy if your life is worth anything.

;D  I know the feeling of #2 and #3, it's not fun especially when your so sure you'll make it back up the hill you go out in your pajamas to drop a kid off somewhere! ::)
