I almost want to see a stacked federal government for awhile longer, with one party running all three branches of government. Now wait, hear me out.
We all know how to boil a frog, right? If you just toss the frog in a pot of hot water, it is said that the frog will just jump out. But if you raise the heat slowly, the frog doesn't notice and will just die slowly but completely content. That's how the saying goes, anyway; I have my doubts about the reality of it. But I digress. What would happen if you raised the temperature on that frog quickly, enough to incite the frog to panic, perhaps?
Americans are being lulled slowly into an authoritarian state. Not enough people really care to do something meaningful to reverse our course. But what if that future state got here sooner, so much sooner that everyone could see it coming and what it was doing to their lives?
We almost had this with Bush. But then the Democrats got control of both houses of Congress. They haven't really done any better in terms of fixing things, but they slowed our rate of descent into perdition at least a little bit. The Bush/Cheney/Addington team has done more to wake up sleeping Americans than any administration before it.
