That's awesome.  Are they expensive?  You could put a couple of those around your house connected to motion sensors for when you're not home.

Puke

How long before these get installed around Fed. buildings?
Once again the gov't subverts technology for evil.

So would a mirror "bounce" the rays back?  I wonder how concentrated the beam is? Could it be
used in a wide swath to uh encourage people to "move along" or is it just single shot toy for now?
What's the energy source? Dilithium crystals maybe?

Anybody remember those old westerns where the swarthy villains would shoot bullets at the meek town folks feet and make them dance?  ...bang, bang...Dance ! Dance! Muh ha ha ha

Puke

No, mirrors would not work against millimeter waves.

From the article:
QuoteThe ADS shoots a beam of millimeters waves, which are longer in wavelength than x-rays but shorter than microwaves — 94 GHz (= 3 mm wavelength) compared to 2.45 GHz (= 12 cm wavelength) in a standard microwave oven... while subjects may feel like they have sustained serious burns, the documents claim effects are not long-lasting. At most, 'some volunteers who tolerate the heat may experience prolonged redness or even small blisters'... There has been no independent checking of the military's claims."

The energy source is called electricity. That's why it's mounted on a truck.

Or small businesses?

Shop owners are already using high frequency sound that most adults cannot hear, but children can, to indiscriminately irritate young people and drive them away.  Presumably this is to discourage loitering.

Things are getting really, really, nutty in this world!  Sometimes I feel like I'm living in the cartoon with Wild E. Coyote, (I think that was his name), and he's the govt. getting all of these Acme shipments in with new, better traps for the Roadrunner! :(

Really? That's awesome. As long as it's posted somewhere that they are doing this it sounds lieka great way to riff-raff off your private property.

At 44, I have less high-frequency loss than most 17 year olds who've had earbuds jammed in their ears at 104+ dbA since they were 14. I can still hear 17kHz tones (admittedly not as sparkling as 25 years ago, but I can still hear it).

I shoot regularly, I listen to and play music, and I use power tools and gas-powered lawn outdoor equipment. I always protect my ears.

Ahhh what did you say... I can't hear over my tinnitus in my right ear.

Yes it's all coming back to me now... a roll of caps on concrete and a sledge hammer in my hands. BOOM! Been ringing ever since.  ;D

I used to squeeze rolls of caps in the vise in my grandfather's vise.  You're real close to the noise when you do thad.

This was actually suggested by one of us, a while back, when some folks  were having problems with teens hanging around a business parking lot in Keene.  I don't know if the Panera guy tried it on Menno, though ;D
