Lt. Kevin Navarro, commanding officer of the Chicago Police Department's Narcotics and Gang Unit, said the ordinance will be an "important tool" to go after grocery stores, health food stores and other businesses. The bags are used by the thousand to sell small quantities of drugs at $10 or $20 a bag.

Are they actually trying to claim the grocery stores are intentionally selling plastic bags for drug use? Or are they just admitting the government likes to "go after" everyone nowadays?

Oh yeah, I have a bunch of these small bags that I stole from the Army. We used them to keep tiny screws and such in. I use the to organize my coin collection and other random tiny things. I'm glad I don't live in Chicago.

Stupider than banning the sale of iodine (a basic chemical element) because of its potential for drug use? Stupider than requiring ID for buying spray paint, because of its potential for use as an inhalant (or for graffiti—I've heard both rationales)?

Sorry, this just doesn't surprise me that much. I've been outstupided by the government too much over the past few years.
