Thanks for the kind words, all!  I really appreciate it.

I guess freedominnh changed his mind about his post and deleted it.  I was going to say that I've seen the movie "Green Card" many times; the Frenchman and I are very similar to the characters in that movie, oddly enough.

By the way, if anyone is wondering, I wrote the essay years ago; the Frenchman and I have since taken separate paths.  Mine lead to New Hampshire; his did not.

Sorry, that's not what I meant.  I meant that I wrote the first draft of the essay about 3 years ago, but only felt the urge to submit it for publication a few months ago.  At that time, I updated it to add in some of the timeline since the original writing.  Then Liberty asked me to expand on a couple of points, which I did.  And then there was about a 6-month lag before it actually got printed.  So I guess you could say they're running 6 months behind the revolution.  :icon_pirat:

I loved that article!
The title is a great hook; the unstated details of the months years of bureaucracy come through between the lines, loud and clear.

Hmmm... New Year's Eve, 1999, I was partying at an improv comedy club in San Jose with a bunch of people that somehow, in my gut, I knew I would not see much of anymore very soon. Even though I was dating one of them at the time.

Of course, I went for booze, not NyQuil. Meh.

1999, Jim I were half-way between Sandy and Denis floating in our houseboat in Redwood City.

Wasn't Kat in the Bay Area in 1999 too?

I was partying late into the night ... with my 3 kids. :)

Nice article. Glad you put in the plug for Nolo Press... they make good products. It's always a good idea to buy their manual when you have anything legal done, whether you use a lawyer or not.
