no unread posts?

This started a long time ago when there was some sort of database issue, and it has never been fixed, even after the forum moved to a couple of different servers and gotten upgraded to newer revisions.  I thought it was an SMF 1.1 thing, but the FSP forum doesn't have the issue, though the NHLA has it as well.

I don't think it is a database issue. I have not had it happen in a long time. It usually happened to me when a browser crashed or I switched computers or something similar.

Still no unread messages. I deleted my account and recreated it and that didn't help.

deleting your account will definitely not fix it ... it won't have any idea what you have read

Of course not - the assumption was that since it works for some people, something
got corrupted in my old accout, so I took the following steps:
- Created a new account, fresh with system defaults .
- Marked all messages read.
- Waited a day or two .
- Logged in .
- Clicked on 'read all unread messages' .

And I got 'no unread messages.

btw, when I go to the different boards, I see the new messages marked as new .

Silly question... which of the following are you clicking:

   Show unread posts since last visit.

   Show new replies to your posts.

Don't know if this helps at all, but here's the bookmark I use for NHFree and it's really handy. I make a similar bookmark for all the forums I visit, though I don't visit them nearly as much lately because it's just too time consuming. It automatically takes you to all unread messages. Sometimes I click it repeatedly after reading a message or reading several messages and it updates the list so it's smaller and easier to navigate. When I'm done with what interests me, I mark all messages read and then I'm all caught up.

I'm using some edited code for the forum, so do let me know if it helps or not.  I'm not seeing the problem right now, so can't check it myself.
