Thanks for the tips so far. As a new buyer, is there anything I should look out for?

1) paying too much.

2) buying it to be shipped to you without a guaranteed delivery date.

How much over the spot price would be too much?

Thanks for the tip!  Sounds like a good place to check out the next time I'm in Manchester.

http://www.coinsnh.com these people had $20 liberty dollars today, which was 1 dollar over spot today. Apparently they've been selling a lot this week.

And about dealers in general... A lot depends on what they have to sell. Somedays a dealer may carry generic brands that someone else sold and may not have them again until a while.

If you are buying silver, I know how to check that I'm not being screwed on weight...how do you tell if you are being screwed by getting something not as pure/other metal that looks like same, etc?

With rounds or wedges it gets pretty easy to tell after you've handled a few pieces. Silver brings to mind coyboys with spurs. I also tend to personally stick to rounds and wedges (I personally love the wedges) imprinted with a brand I know. I trust that my coin dealer isn't out to screw me over either.

FYI I'll be making monthly APMEX orders from now on (starting next week) until/unless I find a reliable and inexpensive local source.  If you want to piggyback on my orders to mutually lower our shipping costs, that's fine with me.  Just let me know what you want and I'll add it to my order -- within reason.  If it's just a few ounces of silver you're interested in, no problem.  If I don't know you, don't be offended if I expect at least partial payment for pricey items up front.  :)

I plan on placing my first monthly order on Monday.  Please contact me by Monday afternoon if you want in on that order.

I now have 1 additional buyer, so shipping costs are cut in half.  If you decide to jump in now, you'll enjoy very low shipping costs (I'm splitting shipping evenly between all participants).

I just checked out Bob's Coins in Manchester.  I got two 1oz bars of silver for $20.  I sure hope they are 1oz and I sure hope they are silver and I didn't over pay.

I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about with respect to the silver content.  Assuming each bar was $20 (versus $20 for 2!), that's a decent price.  APMEX has them for < $19, but of course you have to worry about shipping so it only makes sense on a larger order than 2 pieces.  Or combining shipping with someone else to reduce the per-person shipping cost.  :)

I'm always interested in buying, and am willing to sell to keep the market flowing. What type of silver are you buying? The last bulk order we did was Englehard 1 ozt rounds and generic 1/2 ozt rounds. The APMEX page on bulk silver just shows 1/2 ozt @$10.22 ea today.

Rounds = generic coins issued by mints and hard money interest groups
Coins = "legal tender" issued by governments / US Eagles, Canadian Maple Leaves, Chinese Pandas, etc.
"Junk" silver = Regular US and Canadian coins pre-1964 that were 90% silver / dimes, quarters, half-dollars

I'd like to join the order if you are getting rounds or bars, and are getting the highest volume price break (usually 100 or 500 items).

Thanks for the interest, toowm.

I was going to place a relatively modest order myself -- about 10 1oz silver eagles.  So far I only found 1 person who was interested in participating in the order, and that was just for a couple ounces.  If there seems to be growing interest in another larger order, I can hold off.  At the moment I'm nowhere near what's needed for a 100 or 500 piece order.

I'm not sure what the benefit of the generic APMEX 1/2 ounce rounds are.  They seem to be more expensive than the silver eagles (which look a bit nicer IMO).  I'm not opposed to them, but I guess I'm just curious why you'd choose the generic rounds?  I guess one thing I can think of is it's easier to hit the 100 piece discount price with the 1/2 ounce rounds...but even then the discounted price is almost the same as the regular silver eagle price.
