No this is for fun and not for profit.  I like teaching.

Will there be a class at Porcfest?  8)

porcupine kate

Not a formal class.  It is 8 hours long.  There will be two shooting events.  Three if I get off my but and get it done.  The Tuesday morning event is a Ladies only shoot at the Belmont firing range.  The other one is Thursday Morning and is open to everybody.  They should cost about $30 per person per event for the range time.  I will be there for both events.  I'm looking for volunteer range safety officers for both events.  Ladies only for Tuesday though.

No sad faces please.
The idea was to have more women come to Porc Fest.
If you look at the schedule for Porc Fest you will see a bunch of events geared more towards women.
This is the only one just for women.
Also the Second Amendment sisters are sponsoring the event.  We are running it and going to supply the guns, ammo, targets, safety glasses and hearing protection.  I know this is hard to believe but there are a lot of women who are more comfortable learning about something that scares them to death from another women who has been exactly where they are now.

I'm also working on having a third shooting event that week.  I will keep you up to date on that also.

I guess I could do it for profit.  Most people teach these classes at cost.  Which is about $50 per person.  I don't know if I would feel comfortable charging more than the competion.  The main reason I decided to become a trainer was to do out reach  for the Second Amendment Sisters.  I would rather not make money at it and be able to introduce more women to shooting and the need for self defence.  I personally don't care if I teach men or women but wouldn't the Shire be better off with more women with guns. ;D

Your resoning is good.  There are gyms and workout centers, (one in Keene in fact) that are just for women.  Some women are uncomfortable doing some things around men.
Good for you and all that you are doing Kate.  With all due respect to the men here, they are not able to reqruit women very well.  I suspect you will be far more successful than the guys.   :)

Congrads Kate.  I'm proud to know ya!  Amen for the women thingie with men involved.
So what are you going to do for training?  I suggest teaching the difference between .357 and .38 special.  A lot of chicks I know got hurt by shooting the .357, and their husbands didn't think of telling them the difference of the 2 rounds.  This stuff makes me mad because a LOT more girls would carry if they wern't scared of guns.

When I teach I always start with a .22 and work our way up from there.  I recommend a .22 for the first time someone shoots a gun because it isn't loud, doesn't kick, and small handed people can hold on to it.  The other reason is the ammunition is much cheaper.  Once someone is comfortable with the .22 then I offer larger calibers to try.  I always go smallest to largest.  I don't put things like a .357 sig or a .44 magnum in their hands.  You don't want to frighten them even more.

Yes, there are many videos on the internet of people firing a large gun for the first time. It's a good way to get people hurt. Only fools would hand a large caliber handgun to an inexperienced shooter.

In Las Vegas they rent guns to use on the gun range.

One guy rented a .50 Desert Eagle and decided he would practice double tapping.
In Las Vegas you get to pay for any damage you do at a shooting range.
His second round cost him a little over $1000.00.   :ahoy:
