Welcome. ;D

Why, thank ye kindly!

Religion is metaphysical statism. I will be ruled by no man on earth, nor by any god in heaven.

Nice signature. I've never really understood why there are some people who want to free themselves from the State only to wrap themselves in chains of their own making.

Metaphysics is a collaborative branch of philosophy, encompassing the branches of cosmology (what is the nature of the universe, and what is man's place in it?) and ontology (what is the nature of being?).

Religion is meaningless, because there is no such thing as "religion". "Religion" is a catch-all term for many different systems of approaching these questions.

Are you asking why people continue to ask these questions?  Or are you merely faulting them for failing to adopt your approach to these questions as a universal constant?

It was not a philosophical question, and mostly just rhetorical. A comment on Christian/cultural conservatives who claim to believe in freedom, often consider themselves "libertarian," and yet their major beef with the government is that it's preventing them from living a far more restrictive lifestyle. They complain about the public schools giving kids condoms and teaching them about sex, the government allowing sex and violence on TV, the courts removing Christian traditions from the public sphere on account of non-Christian Americans, &c., &c..

Such people are certainly entitled to believe whatever they wish, but calling oneself "libertarian" when one is just a grumpy cultural conservative is silly.

And now it has its own thread. Endless debate and whining, eh? And you used a straight ' in the subject line...

/grumpy libertarian

Yes and no. If you believe government is preventing you from living a more restrictive lifestyle, you're a libertarian. If you believe government is preventing others from living a more restrictive lifestyle, you're an asshat (and probably a dominionist).

It's usually the latter, in that it's usually about not being able to raise their children in such a manner.

Homeschool your kids, take them to church, and throw away your tv.

Problem solved.

Indeed. But damn near everyone wants to force their ideology on everyone else, conservatives and liberals alike.
