Quote from: 'Russell Kanning'still want to avoid the aluminum ... I also don't eat antacid tabs

Fair enough.

Quote from: j'raxisHow does its presence in other things say anything about its safety in kettles

The presense in other things wasn't intended to explain the safety in the kettle, merely to indicate the the use of aluminum in food preparation introduces less aluminum into the body than several common (and often frequently done things).

Quote from: j'raxisespecially when people who are concerned about the aluminum–Alzheimer's link also avoid standard antiperspirants and antacid tablets?

There are a lot of people who are concerned and aren't aware that their other behaviors contribute signifigantly more to introducing something they don't want into their bodies. Many people consider antacid tablets or anti-perspirant to be harmless and when put in perspective the use of alumium kettles contributes less than that person's other "acceptable" behavor.

I'm not arguing people use aluminum kettles. I'm simply putting it out there - people who have incentives to gather information on alzheimers don't beleive there's a positive correlation. If you wanna hedge on the side of caution, more power to you.

Quote from: 'NHliberty'I think its just a question of dosage at that point. Assuming he is correct, then I could drink 5 gallons of beer and get the same dosage of aluminum as taking one antacid tablet. Regardless of the source, none of it does you any good.

Yes. Trace amounts of arsenic, lead and mercury can exist in your system without signifigant ill effect. It's large concentrations of those substances which do damage. The human body is incredibly resiliant. The levels of aluminum an average person has in their body daily is not enough to demonstrate a causal relationship.

Quote from: 'NHLiberty'Whether it causes harm or not, in the amounts you would ingest in normal day to day life, I don't know. I've seen too much health research speak conclusively about things, only to swing back and contradict itself a few months, years, or decades later to worry too much about any of it.

Googling "alzheimers and aluminum" returns many resources citing the positive correlation and it's "common knowledge". That's exactly why I decided to chime in. There's more evidence showing first-hand marijuana and second-hand tobacco smoke are confirmed harmful substances than linking alzheimers and aluminum but to find that infomation is a bit difficult because people seldom question those assumptions.

the price of oil and gas still stinks ..... maybe we need to stop the evil empire from attacking people

Agreed!

I'm fully expecting the government to kill more people today and I'm fully expecting gas to cost more today than it did yesterday.

John Edward Mercier

Stop them from attacking who?
There is no one with oil calling for lower prices...

The Saudi Royal family made it clear.
America provides security in return for these low prices. Fail to provide the security and these low prices are a fond memory.

K. Darien Freeheart

The military is a subsidy on the price of oil. Compared to every other nation gas prices are LOW in the USA.

I'm calling for an end to the subsidy to create real market incentive to get off of it.

the price of oil goes up when the evil empire attacks ... maybe we could see what it is like without war

Not even Good Imperialists! Just Imperialists!

Sooner or later, Iran will win... since they aren't putting out much effort, they're citizenry is more willing to let them continue the course.

yesterday i just came off a 100 mile gastationless road on fumes and pulled into  the only station for the next 100 miles as i was filling up my truck bitching about the high price of diesel and having no choice but to pay $4.79 a gal. I stopped bitching when after i paid and came out to see the station owner changing the price from $4.79  to 5.39 just in time for the vacationers. if the feds didnt get most of the profits i would not be so upset but i feel this must be how were suppoting this ugly war and i feel by paying it (which ihave no real choice ) that i am in a way helping pay for this war which i do not believe in when will it end?

Russell that Rhoades Car is looking better and better. ;)

Russell Kanning

It didn't cost much gas ... but it wasn't the most efficient bike either.
I have seen more scooters popping up .... I think that will help make them cheaper to buy. :)

Pat McCotter

Yep, scooters are flying out of the Segway dealer here in Concord.

Is that a new feature?

Sort of. The feds tax corporate profits... so the more the oil companies make the more they get. They also tax each gallon of fuel and expend it through the Federal Highway Administration.
The operation in Iraq, like many other programs, is actually financed through debt spending. The money is first borrowed from the surplus Social Security accounts, then the remainder is raised through US Treasury note/bond sales.

The operation in the Middle East will end as fast as the US citizenry can make the intrinsic economic changes. These changes will place less pressure on the Congress/President to maintain the lower price.
Without the military subsidy, I believe the current estimate is $7 gasoline and $9 diesel/heating fuel. The underlying transportation route development would need to be pared back... and some maintenance would not get done.
