Routine stop leads to arrest of illegals
7 Brazilians turned over to U.S. customs agents

A routine traffic stop Wednesday morning ended with the arrests of seven illegal immigrants living at two homes in Keene, police said.

Keene Police Officer Robert S. Collinsworth stopped a vehicle around 8 a.m. for failing to yield to traffic entering the Main-Marlboro-Winchester streets roundabout.

Because the driver could speak only Portuguese, Collinsworth agreed to follow him back to his home at 66 Franklin St., where the man's roommate would act as a translator, police said.

The roommate, though, spoke broken English and could not act effectively as a translator, according to Keene police Sgt. James A. Cemorelis.

"We couldn't figure out who was who or what was what," he said, "so we called in a New Hampshire State Police Trooper who speaks fluent Portuguese."

The trooper was able to determine that the two men staying at the home were living in the U.S. illegally, Cemorelis said.

They were identified by police as Jose Fernandes, 50, and Ederson Gomes Alexio, 24, who are from Brazil.

While police were speaking with Fernandes and Alexio, a third Brazilian man entered the Franklin Street residence and declared that he was also an illegal immigrant, according to Cemorelis.

Police followed the man to his home at 26 Probate St. and learned that a total of five illegal immigrants from Brazil were living there, Cemorelis said.

Three were arrested at the home and two were picked up while working for a cleaning company at the Target store in the Monadnock Marketplace.

The five people were identified by police as: Fabricio Goncalves, 31, Fabiana Darocha, 23, Pedro Dasilva, 27, Durval Adriano, 25, and Bertolbo Neto, 43.

All seven people were taken to the Cheshire County jail and later turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Their cases will eventually be handled by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to Cemorelis.

Meanwhile, police learned during the investigation that unfolded after the traffic stop that two more illegal immigrants from Brazil were living at a third Keene home.

Police contacted the two, but federal immigration agents requested they make no arrests.

The two have children that attend area schools, which is why agents said they would follow up with the family at a later date, according to Cemorelis.

It was unclear today whether the seven Brazilians in custody would be deported.

Them nasty nativist cops.   >:(  The american apartheid is alive and well.  Wasting time messing with those people, when they should be going after them people who beat some guy down with a baseball bat.  I suspect the Keene police will solve that one when the last perpetrator finally turns himself in.

"Illegals"?

Yep. If you're not born American, you're illegal until proven otherwise.
