The following is taken from my thread in the FSP Forum under the Shadow Ad section, if you have any comments, send them soon, I'll be sending the ad to the first magazine in about a week.

I'm not doing shadow ads, those are reactive to something else happening.? I am doing proactive ads in venues that will be receptive to our cause.? Within the next week I will be sending in an ad to "The Backwoodsman."? It touts itself as "The Magazine for the Twenty-First century Frontiersman."? Most of the readers are people who like the simple life and don't like too much interference.? (I highly recommend the magazine to people who like any of the following:? Muzzleloading; Woodslore; Survival; Homesteading; History; Indian Lore.? www.backwoodsmanmag.com).? Next month I will put ads in another magazine for a year and I will do that each month for the next four months.

At only 50 cents a word per issue, six issues per year, I am going to put it in each of the next seven issues of the Backwoodsman, but the other magazines will only be for a year each (since any more issues in those might fall after the September 06 date and we don't know how things will be in a year).

Following is what I was thinking of using as the ad, if anyone has anything to say about it, respond quickly before it becomes final.

LIBERTY IN OUR LIFETIME.? Does modern American Politics get you down??
Looking for someplace where the U.S. Constitution still means something?
Do you believe in freedom of choice to live your life without constant
interference by the nanny state?? So do we, we are the Free State Project.

Welcome to the Underground, Cav.  I assume you are a serviceman or ex-serviceman, thanks for your service!  Thanks also for working on this ad project on your own without waiting around for support.

With regard to the ad wording here is a proposed re-write that might save you some money?

LIBERTY IN OUR LIFETIME:  Looking for someplace where the U.S. Constitution still means something?
Ready to live without constant interference from the Nanny State?  Join us in New Hampshire, where freedom lovers are gathering and liberty is staging a comeback:  www.FreeStateProject.org; 888-532-4604

Someone else may be able to make further modifications...

Believe you add sounds great.  One small suggestion....change "nanny state"...to "government."

I am interested in running an ad like this in Soldier of Fortune magazine too.

Back-woods is a wonderfull, "survivalist" Far right of center type magazine.

We definitely need those types of people in the FSP.

Another good magazine is a left of center survivalist magazine called Backwoods homes.

In fact many of those so-called "green" magazines actually take a fairly libertarian aproach to the environment.

Backwoods Home is definitely NOT left of center. If you have read any of the publisher's (Dave Duffy) or Senior Editor's (John Silveira) columns you would see they are quite libertarian, constitutionalist, or whatever word you want to put on people who want the government that our founding fathers envisioned.

Dave Duffy's articles & columns

John Silveira's articles & columns

Claire Wolfe also writes for them.

Also, Massad Ayoob writes "Ayoob on Firearms."

And to round it off, Jackie Clay writes about gardening, canning, animal husbandry, cooking, and the myriad little details many people forget are part of backwoods/country/self-sufficient living.

Nowhere in the magazine have I read of anybody asking the government for help. They have asked the government to stop subsidizing the oil companies so that renewable energy can compete, not like the environmentalist who request subsidies for renewables.

Cheers!

No I think we might be confused.

Their are two different magazines. One is call Backwoods. The other is called Backwoods Homes.

They're both good magazines. But, in my experience, one tends to be a bit left libertarian, and the other right libertarian.

I could be confused on which one is which.

Yeah, you got them backwards Tracy.? However, BACKHOME, www.backhomemagazine.com isn't political.? Never seen a political bent on anything I've read in it, unlike Mother, which everyone knows has turned Democrate/Yuppy (aka commie/pinko).? BHM, www.backwoodshome.com is very political, including the editorials on the "The coming American Dictatership,"? my favorites.?

These two magazines, coincidently, are on my list for ads in the following two months(will be purchased for a year).? The last one might be "Muzzle Blasts" the magazine of the NMLRA, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.? Haven't decided for sure yet.

These are wonderful magazines for people who want to control their own lives, because what better control can you have than to be able to provide your own shelter, food and protection; things no longer taught at the Government Run Indoctrination Camps (public school).? I highly recomend picking them up at your library, especially since your tax dollars are already paying for it; or better yet, support them further and get your own subscription.

As to the person wanting to place similar ad in SOF, go for it.? Just let them know at the FSP site so others don't pay for similar ad in same magazine for same period.

Remember, the pen is mightier than the sword.......................................................especially if the pen is placed firmly in the barrel of your SigPro 2340 in .40 S&W before firing.

I believe that there is another magazine in addition to the ones you have listed, which may be what is confusing the issue here. It is called The Backwoodsman.

tracysaboe

OK, thanks for setting me straight.

I tend to pick up "green" magazines here and their every once in awhile. Mother Earth News isn't entirely commy/pinko. I'd say that's a bit extreme, but I know what you mean. They tend to push the whole global warming thing a-lot. But usually theirs an informative artical or two about something usefull.

Theirs a much better one then Mother Earth called "Home Power" And they have articles and news and things about generating your own ellectricity.  Usually articals are about Entrapreuneurs, and individuals who have figured out something inventive. As opposed to Mother Earth which tends to talk about government interventions and stuff.

I'd say they're yuppie/pinko. Instead DIY, it's "where-to-buy". Instead of teaching grubby old backwoods types and hippies how to live low-impact with minimal resources, Mother Earth is now for yuppies looking to cash out their tech-sector millions, and claim to be "friends of the earth" and "progressive" by making their 12,000 square foot ranchette more efficient.

Mother Earth News and "This Old House" started out the same, and wound up the same.

I remember reading Mother in high school (a quarter of a century ago), and it was full of useful how-to stuff that would bring down the wrath of the current editorial board. Anyone else remember their plans for heating a house with a stove that dripped used motor oil onto a hot cast-iron skillet? Their articles on hunting, trapping, and processing game?

Backwoods Home is close to what Mother Earth News used to be.

Contact Bob Hull rhull@wallnet.com about the ad.  He might even be able to help pay for it with FSP funds.

BTW, do survivalists hunt greens?

This is a little scary untill you add that all this was inside a big 'woodstove like' tank!
I had plans for this at one time and, actually, built the airtight woodstove they sold plans for.
I Ebayed  my MEN collection and a couple of others I inherited, but, I will never part with Vols. 1-10!
I never did build the 'Hina' in, I think, 37 and 38, but, I ain't dead yet.
All of the early MEN's are online.
You are right about TOH.  They started out showing people how to repair and expand their own houses with some help from professionals.  Now the theme is how much money can we throw into the house!  What are they up to? 3 fucking dishwashers in one kitchen?

CavalrySoldier

I paid for the ad, it will appear as I originally wrote it, with two changes.? As suggested I changed from "nanny state" to "government."? Additionally, it wasn't that much extra, so instead of being in the classifieds it will be a 1/12th page ad somewhere in the regular part of the magazine and will also have the FSP logo included.? The ad will start with the October issue I believe, and it will probably be in at least one other magazine at the time (will pay for that on the 15th of September, same day I decide which magazine).

As to the person who suggested I talk to Bob Hull, I already let him know.? I didn't ask for any matching funds because it wasn't my intent for FSP to buy ads, it was my intent for me to buy ads.? Unlike a donation, buying an ad for the group won't get reported by me or them, I just kept the government out of the deal.

As to the guy who agrees with me about the Commie aspects of the modern Mother Earth News, since you liked their old stuff I wanted to let you know that they are selling anthologies on CD.? Their first ten years and their second ten years are each $19.95.? I plan on buying them myself, even though I hate giving those commie bastards any money.

Again, to the person who is considering putting a similar ad in SOF:? A. go for it; B.? Let Bob Hull know (FSP Advertizing guy); C.? And feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I feel like Santa, I'm giving anyone who reads the right magazine the hope of freedom in our lifetime, and all it took was a few calls an email and a few hundred bucks (not male reindeer).
