That is ridiculous, I think us liberty oriented people should make sure and stand up for folks like this, and who knows maybe we could make some friends while we are at it...

The Amish are a very admirable people. They leave others alone and that used to work for them in return.  Recently they've also run into issues with the Gov't. concerning NAIS (National Animal I.D. forced micro chipping of farm animals etc.) .  Seems that whole freedom of religion stuff no longer applies.
People who mess with the Amish will get very little sympathy.

In NH BEFORE you have a licensed septic system installed, it can cost about $1,000. That's for tjhe perculation test, septic plan and state application fee for a septic permit.  Now that is a crock of shit.
In cities our whole waste treatment system is wrong anyway. We shit in clean water, flush it into a  sewer where it goes to a waste treatment facility where chemicals are added and then we take the chemicals out later, doesn't seem very efficient to me.

A good book about cheap alternative waste systems is HUMANORE by Joe Jenkins. It's funny too.
Not for the fecophobic though.

The humanure stuff was beyond what I can take, and I have a strong stomach.  Way too much of an eww factor.

doobie

This is a load of crap!  I hope a judge flushes the SEA down the drain and knocks the shit out of their heads.

This shouldn't be a problem so long as they aren't dumping large amounts of raw sewage onto the same spot of open ground regularly, near a body of water, or near a property line. Being a school for Amish I'm guessing there aren't a whole lot of students and they have plenty of space for disposal. If it were me I'd still compost it first though.

I've been guerrilla composting my own wastes for about a year now in my tiny suburban backyard. My wife still uses the centralized sewage system though . I highly recommend the aforementioned book "The Humanure Handbook: A Guide to Composting Human Manure" for anyone interested in turning their pee and poo into free fertilizer rather than paying to turn it into pollution; it's available for free as a download.

Government has been somewhat careful with the Amish over the years. I remember reading that they (Amish) had to start paying a road tax for their horse and buggy set ups. Too bad they have beaten all their swords into plowshares.

The nonviolent resistance is the only reason they have held onto what they have. As soon as they had used the violent methods they would have been squashed.

Don't you think the hands off policy was because in the past "our" government has considered the Amish sacrosanct? In my humble opinion the frog is in the pot with the Amish too it's just not as hot yet.

I respect the Amish but If this country had been settled by Amish I probably would have born in the Grampian Highlands.
