Ok, I dislike McCain plenty.  But what exactly is the point of this video?  Is it to show that he's so old that he can't always quickly think on his feet and provide a clear, honest answer (or even a "politician's" answer)?  That's about all I took from it.

Beyond that, the question was absurd.  What in the world does "fairness" have to do with Viagra vs birth control pills?  For that matter, how is Viagra related to birth control pills in any manner whatsoever?  If health insurance companies were providing coverage for men's multi-vitamins, but not for women's multi-vitamins, then at least the question would make sense.

Furthermore, the reporter was badgering McCain (politely at least) about why he voted to not force private companies to provide a particular medication.  McCain had trouble remembering/explaining his reason, true.  But his reason given later in the day was that he prefers that sort of thing to be left to market forces.  He is correct.

There are countless other reasons to bash McCain.  This effort makes the bashers look worse than he does IMO!

The fairness issue arises because Viagra and contraceptives cater to directly opposing sides of the same fertility question.  In a paradigm (viz Statist) where health choices are determined by legislative statute, and fairness enforced by the same, the inability to choose on both ends of the fertility decision displays bias against the primary demanders of contraceptives - women. 

The discrepancy in provision also speaks, I think, to the whole biological-evolutionarily embedded idea that procreation is good and that life is good and desirable whereas choosing otherwise is selfish and potentially lethal to the survival of the group or tribe. 

The reporter's right, IMO.  If you're going to have a Statist health care system that provides for one end, there should be equitable provision on the other.  There is also bias against male contraceptives, which strengthens the second notion.  This culture still has some gender issues to get over, IMO.  We'll get over them faster without antagonistic government preying on whatever dying sentiments happen to dredge to the top, and without these sentiments becoming ensconced in the institutions around us.

It proves he's a slimy politician. Ron Paul is older than John McCain yet Paul is able to, without hesitation and consultation answer "That's not somethign the government show have a say in either way".
