Yes, that was certainly not necessary, but appreciated.

Kat Kanning

well I had that nice picture of you in front of city hall that needed text.  :P

FTL_Ian

It must have been torture having to listen to that bureaucratic blather over and over.   :o

Kat Kanning

I didn't back up too many times, just kept stopping it every sentence.  He was a smooth politician  :o  I like the part where he says that they don't like to talk about property taxes in terms of theft.  I sure bet he doesn't!!

FTL_Ian

Reading it results in phrases standing out that weren't as noticeable when I was listening to him.  Particularly this one:

QuoteI'm just going to give you the answer that I would give to a person.

This is a very interesting sentence.  It seems to validate the corporate person theory, the idea that govts can only interact with other fictions, which is why they create corporate persons for each of us.

John Edward Mercier

No. It validates you were interviewing him.

Huh?

He could have said, "give to anybody", but he chose "a person".  Seems like he's acknowledging that govt interacts with "persons".

Ian, I think you're turning into a "fringe conspiracy theorist".

This "corporate entity" thing sounds plausible as a bit of historical trivia but in the context of real-world use, you've got two scenarios.

Say that it's true. Government people are only able to interact with these legal fictions. If EVERYBODY in the government (or even a vast majority of "uppers", enough to make it matter on a practical level) knows this then you acknowledge that the government is capable of pulling off this massive and secret deception. Listening to FTL a year ago, I very clearly get the impression that you beleive part of the danger of government (aside from the violence) is the inherent inability to be efficient or capable.

If everybody doesn't know this, however, then practically speaking it's pointless. The bureaucrats will continue treating you as a subject regardless of what your legal status is. Declaring yourself a sovereign (and hence, not a government actionable legal entity) won't stop the police from shoving you into a cruiser though it MIGHT get you to walk from a court room but then you've got another issue - you're stuck arguing that their rules somehow actually have validity.

I'm excited by the stuff you're doing and glad you're sorta getting answers, but I almost feel as if the "corporate entity" thing is as big of a game as the one that got you to start asking questions in the first place and I'm confused by what you actually want or expect to come of it.

I just find their system curious.  I'm experimenting to see how true the claims are.  Never said I expected it to do anything for me, like save me from a trip to jail.

It struck me as very odd too! I mean, I'm not conspiracy theorist by far, but I can't help but notice how often I'm asked to verify my "citizen" status. I'm not really calling it a conspiracy but it sounds like something lawyer types would concoct to back up this notion of consent. I don't really see it having a practical application as in you can rescind it and get on with your life free of government. It's more likely something they would just use to seem more legitimate. I can't imagine it ever working to be used against them since they pretty much adjust the rules as they go along to suit their purposes. More likely it would just be an excuse for them to start making your life Hell by making it impossible to function like unable to get insurance, a driver's license, passport, or even kick you out of the country since they claim they own it.

for what's it's worth, I took what he said as meaning, this is how I would answer if I were just asked by a person on the street, not answering as a govt official.

Just to be clear, I wasn't implying you thought so either. I was just wondering why this matters to you enough to pursue it. The whole "curiosity" think is understandable, kind of like watching how ants carry on.
