Don't try selling your vote

I saw on freekeene.com that Russell was trying to sell his vote.  It's probably illegal.  Not sure about NH, but others have been prosecuted for it in other states.  And eBay took it down already.

Anyway, I applaud the effort, just not sure its worth another court appearance.   ^-^

In addition, who cares about their laws?

It's probably illegal.

In fact, that's probably why they tried it. Russell's been known to do things for exactly that reason.

A law against selling your vote is the ultimate in stupid...  a vestage of alcohol prohibition.

It's a "gift" the Goobernment gives to you and the only thing you can do with it is apply it to the selections the Goobernment provides you.

The Goobernment forbids that you try to find real value in your vote... and discover that the most it is worth a cheap beer and at worst it has negative value in the form of a prison sentence, for abusing their gift.

Actually candidates do 'buy', and voters do 'sell' their vote... just not so openly.

I think it's a neat idea, what Russel tried to do. :)

It really points out the truth. Politicians put out a nice show trying to outbid each other in how much warm and fuzzies will they pay you for your vote. Of course, at the end of the elections, warm and fuzzies tend to evaporate into nothingness, but your vote still "counts", if you're lucky.

I don't want to be lucky that way. LOL So just selling my vote for real cash seems like a more rewarding investment. ;D

Like I said I applaud the effort.

But there is one more consideration.  The person who buys it might also be in violation of the law.  Putting it on eBay could have resulted in some unsuspecting person becoming unknowingly involved in an illegal act.  So if you sell your vote, sell it to a friend.   :P

I'm sure that he gets that it is illegal. The point is that if you 'own' something you should be able to sell it...

Let's make a law requiring everyone to vote!!!

Once at my old college in 2004 a kid tried to auction his vote to the highest bidder using our all-student email system. Last time I checked it the highest bid was Kerry for $4, but I don't know what happened in the end. Maybe he got away with selling it, I don't know. Somebody tried to auction their vote on ebay in that year, too, and the authorities scolded him and ordered ebay to stop the auction, but they didn't threaten him with prison or anything like that.

A little off subject, but, I remember a cartoon in Playboy in the 60's that depicted a little Black kid offering to sell his chance of becoming president to a little white kid for a nickel.

... and the little black kid turned out to be Barack Obama and the little white kid?...  Hillary Clinton.   :o

... and one could still get nickle beers in the 60's.
