From what I understand, Palin is closer politically to Ron Paul than to McCain. But I still haven't decided what I'm going to do.

It's possible to vote for Palin without voting for McSame [cut] if they followed state law, this would cancel the vote for McCain in favor of Paul, but still record the vote for Palin. Since I don't figure they'd get that right, I'll just write her in too.

:-) cool.  I had been wondering whether it was possible to do this, but I had allowed a very brief google search to persuade me that it wasn't.  Thanks for mentioning it.

Remember, I was only speaking of Texas; state laws vary.

Are you kidding me, Kevin? Palin is a raving lunatic war hawk. Isn't your son in the military? Do you really want loonies like McCain and Palin deciding whether your son gets shipped off to wage nuclear war in Iran?

She is committed to ensuring that gay people are not allowed to marry.

The crux of her energy ideas is drilling for oil in ANWR.  (Yeah, that'll delay peak oil ... for about 3 months ... then what?)

The thought that she might be better than McCain is probably true. Hardly worth anyone's vote though.  On the Kanning statist scale, (with Tolstoy being a 0 and Stalin being a 10)  I give her a 9.6  ;D

So is hers. And unlike mine, hers is actually heading to Iraq.

Our pet republican is thrilled about Palin.  Some others, running for State Rep think Macinsane's choosing her will improvement their chances.

Here is what is frightening to me about Palin:  as incoherent as she is when she's actually talking (she seems to stumble over her words and sound like a moron), she really does get it!  She understands that this war is about controlling oil reserves. That's one side of the coin. On the other side of the coin, she's stupid enough to think that ANWR is the solution. So when she finds out just how desperate the true oil situation is, what will make her renounce war as a solution to the energy crisis? Cause I certainly didn't hear her denounce it in any moral terms. It was more about her boy.

And she actually says she respects McCain's position on war! Since she says she respects his position, and since his position is loony nutjob bomb everybody I can think of ... ergo, she is a lunatic. Or else perhaps she just doesn't know what his position is, and will quickly denounce McCain as soon as she hears about it.

David

I know very little about her, but I figure Mr. bomb Iran man would not pic her unless she was a raving neocon who saw eye to eye at least on the major issues to him.  Most people do not pic political assistants that will make them look like assess.

Sounds like typical compromising of principals and crafty manipulation of words that politicians do. *shrug* To be consistent you'd have to say all politicians are lunatics, or at least the ones that win in the big races, but frankly I'd have a hard time denying that.

Caleb

Yeah. I have a hard time speaking "politicalese". I respect a "say what you mean and mean what you say" approach more myself.

But this does go back to something I've noticed from both the right and the left. They have a tendency not to believe that people actually mean what they say. I saw it from the Ron Paul people, who assured me that Ron Paul wasn't really against our economic refugee friends, he was just saying that he wanted to build a wall because it was a necessary position to take. And on the left, I see it from liberal friends of mine who assure me that Obama isn't really a warmonger, he just says stuff like that because he has to look tough to win the election. These politicians become a sort of blank slate through which we project our own ideals, instead of taking them at their word.

If Ron Paul says he wants to build a wall, I have to take him at his word. If Obama says he wants to do a troop surge in Afghanistan and might use Da Bomb on Iran, I have to believe that too. And when Palin says that she respects McCain's position, I believe her there. What else do I have to go on other than what these bozos say and do?

Stephen W. Carson writes this from lewrockwell.com
http://www.lewrockwell.com/carson/carson27.html

In 1969, Murray Rothbard pleaded with libertarians to stop being stalking horses for the Right wing:

I got out of the Right-wing not because I ceased believing in liberty, but because being a libertarian above all, I came to see that the Right-wing specialized in cloaking its authoritarian and neo-fascist policies in the honeyed words of libertarian rhetoric. They need you for their libertarian cover; stop providing it for them!-End quote

Ain't that the truth.  Good article also.

Your source does not support your statement that she is a "raving lunatic war hawk". She says Americans want an end to this war, and a plan to end it. I don't hear her singing harmony to McCain on a chorus of "Bomb bomb Iran".

Both Obama and Hillary have been more openly hawkish than Palin.

Yuck! I just got this sent to me.

I love how for so many Christians, blasphemy is no longer considered that big of a deal. Palin is going around saying that the Iraq War is a task that is from God. I just listened to Mitt Romney say that America is "the hope of the world" (I see he has a new Messiah.)

At the risk of sounding like a Democrat, listening to this Republican convention makes me want to projectile vomit.
