Caleb and everybody, when I said not libertarians, I meant not libertarians or anarchists.

I meant regular people. If you ask regular people who live in the border states what they think, they all say that the situation is way out of control and it needs to be fixed. Just take Lou Dobbs, for instance. He was a regular old anchorman who got wind of the border situation, and then he decided that he had to let the nation know about it. Just take Ron Paul, your hero, for instance. He got wind of the border situation, and he thinks it needs to be fixed, too.

:biglaugh:

No, Luke, when you say "normal people" you don't mean just excluding libertarians and anarchists.

Take Southern California, for instance. 5 million just in LA are hispanics. I would estimate that at least half of the people are hispanic, and they don't seem to object to their family coming from Mexico, so that means that 50% of the population is very welcoming from the outset.

Now, of the remaining 50% of the population, 44% are Democrats, and 19% are Independents. These two groups have been welcoming to the economic refugee community here.

That leaves only 33% who might be antagonistic. And not even all these Republicans are antagonistic. In my experience, only the lunatic fringe is anti-immigrant to the point of frothing at the mouth. Maybe 5% or so. Some others don't like certain aspects, but they don't think too much about it. For the most part, people here don't seem to think about race or national origin very much. Southern California is a little cosmopolitan.

It isn't the border people, in my experience, that are having troubles. It's funny because I met far more frothing at the mouth anti-immigrants in NH, a place where people never even see an economic refugee, than I do here.

Maybe you ought to come down here yourself and quit judging based on ... well, whatever they teach you in Iowa or Missouri or wherever the hell you are.

Lived in AZ for over a decade till just a few months ago. Love the New Times, hate Arpaio and there is no immigration problem. There's a welfare problem.

I second that "Wow"!

Anyone have Arpaio's email address, or know how to get it? If he's so anxious to have my personal information, I'm going to send it to him.

I have his home address. You can write him snail mail.

Yes, the New Times published it on their front cover in 06 and I kept a copy. Pm me if interested, I don't want to post it here.

Joe Arpaio is a great man.

You get this close to actually sounding like you begin to "get" it, then you come out something like this...

I keep trying to tell people he's a time-wasting troll.  Banninate!

But then he says stuff like this, and I'm glad he's here just for the comedic value.

No way Jose!

See I already have a life, thank you very much. Joe Arpaio is not going on his own chain gang because chain gangs are for criminals and Joe Arpaio is a lawman, not a criminal.

Just like Joe says, criminals who commit crimes in Maricopa county should not complain when they receive harsh punishment because American soldiers in Iraq who never committed a crime are working under much harder conditions than the chain gangs and the bologna sandwiches of Joe's jails.

Caleb

Criminals? Many of them are guilty only of Working While Mexican. Perhaps only of Existing While Mexican.

AntonLee

some of them are just charged as "W.W.M." . . . some I've come into contact with are "working while brazillian"

and I say 'come into contact' like they're an alien species. . . JUST LIKE MYSELF

I've got just as much right to be here as anyone else in the world.  That also works the other way around.

Caleb, first of all I had in mind criminals in general when I made that statement, not just illegal aliens.

But now that you want to veer us back to that subject, what should happen to these illegal aliens is they should go before a judge and a jury and when they are found guilty they should be locked up in federal prison, and when their prison term is over they should be deported back to wherever they came from.

But is that what happens to them?? Noooooo. At worst we get pandering politicians like Barack Obama who effectively promise them amnesty and free US citizenship with that fake little smile on his stupid little face. At best we get politicians who say "immediately deport them back to Mexico" (with no mention of punishment), which is a form of amnesty in and of itself because it is amnesty from prosecution and punishment for the crime of illegal immigration which is what they deserve to have happen to them.

And the reason why that is not happening is that the Left in this country teaches them to cry "racist" whenever somebody even so much as mentions punishing them for their crimes or even so much as deporting them with no punishment. Crying "racist" left and right has become the lottery ticket that keeps on winning for any minority that wants either entitlements or to get out of punishment for crime in this PC culture.

Joe Arpaio is the only man who sees the truth and who cuts through all the PC BS and uses whatever powers he has to give them at least part of the punishment that they deserve. Not amnesty. Not a free air conditioned bus ride back to Mexico. Punishment.

Angry trolls should be banned.

-1 for your hate, Luke.
