I got invited as a member of the press to some sort of Conservative Blogger event. I think this is the second notice. I think the first mentioned the possibility for travel expenses.

QuoteAs a member of the press, you would receive access to the event—which includes free meals—as well as access to the Bloggers' Row. To obtain your press credential, please e-mail NewMedia@afphq.org

Thousands of activists will be joining us from all across the country in a massive show of force for our shared conservative principles. We hope you'll be able to add your voice, and the power of your blog, to make this an even more successful event.

I can't help but wonder how I got tagged as a "conservative blogger". My guess is maybe they saw this:

But didn't see all of these:

I'd not be too hung up on the "conservative" part. Depending on the venue, it might be a good way to network and promote AIYH to a potential group of people who might be receptive to the idea. Or better yet, they might be totally hostile, raise a stink and go on an anti-AIYH campaign that makes the comics now "offensive" and "radical" which would probably draw more hits than "Conservative".

Though, I am left wondering something...

How in the hell do you determine exactly who is "press" at a convention about bloggers? They're e-mailing you to get "press" credentials, so obviously having a blog makes you press, but doesn't that mean everyone attending a convention about blogging would be press?

I think it's just the blogging elite like myself who get press credentials.  ;) 8)

Now I'm wondering if they issue "Regular Guy" credentials at Press oriented conventions.

QuoteHow did you get one and I didn't?!

Dale is one of those liberal artsy fartsy people that Neocons can poke and prod at and feel happy they let a "fringer" in. You know, like of like how some liberals hire minorities they'd not normally hire, then pat themselves on the back for being "tolerant" and "multicultural" or whatever.

You, on the other hand, might actually pose a credible arguement from a semi-conservative viewpoint and that's scary to them!

Then again, it could be entirely based on the search terms they Googled before sending out invited.

You didn't get one because you are one of those "Liberal" bloggers that exposes the idiotic things that government does.  ;D

Just wait, next year I'll be one of those "Conservative" bloggers that exposes the idiotic things that government does.

Which illustrates the problem quite nicely.

From today's email. They seem to REALLY want me to attend this thing.  :o

QuoteWe have some travel and hotel scholarships available for state level bloggers to attend our Defending the American Dream Summit on October 10 & 11 in Washington, DC. We can cover the cost of hotel and airfare up to $1,000. I have sent this e-mail all of the conservative and libertarian bloggers that I have records for in NH, LA, CO, MO, and FL – so I will have to award the scholarships on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested and able to attend, please send me an e-mail as soon as possible. I'll be unavailable for part of the afternoon, but will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yeah nobody suspects the Conservative Blogger Inquisition!

Friday

I didn't get an invite either, but Denis forwarded me his invite and I applied.  What the hell, free trip to D.C. and the opportunity to meet cool people.
