Need a new computer?

If you're reading this, you probably already have one, but maybe you know somebody who needs one or maybe you're wanting to get a new one for the upcoming helliday season. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a computer from the big name brands at the big box stores. You will get ripped off.

I kind of got back into this entirely by accident last week when I built a computer and sold it to a recent mover who needed one. (Those of you at Taproom Tuesday last week now know what that strange box was that I brought in.)

So here's the deal.

Tell me how much you want to spend, and what you intend to use the computer for, and I'll specify the best computer I can build within your budget to fit your needs. You agree to the spec, I put it together, and then you enjoy it. Or give it to someone for Stupidfest. Or whatever.

And there you have it. PM me if you have any questions. :)

I love roll your own. :)

I think my computer still outperforms most of the things on the market right now and costs much, much less.

Anyone who takes error up on his offer will save a ton and get a great rig out of the process. :D

doobie

I just need to figure out power on beep codes.  I upgraded my computer to a free mb/ps a few months ago and it only boots sometimes.  I feel like such an ungeek since I haven't dealt with this stuff for ages.

Not to make this a technical thread, but this should help.

Now that's a very rude question.

Mac?   :P

Um, possibly, but don't count on it.

Um, possibly, but don't count on it.

I don't think I have the patience to build a Hackintosh and make sure everything worked right, but if someone built an ATX-sized version for the right price, I'd sure consider buying one.

I could use one for festivus this year.
In the past I buy a $200 box ... put linux on it ... and hook it up to my stuph.
This year I was thinking about buying a eeepc, so we would have a tiny laptop to run around with.
Do you do anything on the very low end for us cheapskate linux guys? :)

I think you're too cheapskate for me! I could find you an Eee PC but it would be more than $200 :)

I know that. This would be big spending for me this year. I might have to go all the way up to $300.
Kat got her windows laptop (first one) last year for $400 and it works fine. I am thinking I should be able to go linux and $300 for a laptop.

I'm buying two Acer Aspire Ones shortly. It's kind of a desperate move to get space in our apartment. My wife and I have both officially decided we hate moving, and our next move will be to New Hampshire so in the meantime we're trying to make space by clearing out the tables in both of our rooms and replacing them with laptops.

TackleTheWorld and Facilitator's setups inspired us. :D

The WIndows XP version is currently at $349 with the Linux version being at $329 new. You might be able to find something cheaper on ebay but probably not much. The Aspire One has a bigger keyboard.

I am reinstalling Windows on my computer right now. If it doesn't work after that, I will hit you up.
