The parents should organize a protest.  Pick one day where every student brings in nothing but "junk" food for lunch.  Let the assholes try to take it.  Be sure each lunch bag includes a not-so-veiled threat from the parent regarding the consequences of the school altering their child's diet.

It's only right that if they're gonna be nice eneough to 'give' you health care that they also ensure you're not wasting their money eating unhealthy.

In Germany it IS a criminal offense to homeschool. I recall a convicting judge saying somethign to the effect of "just like drunk driving, removing children from a government school program is endangering their very well-being and should be responded to as such".

Just goes to show that we never quite finished with them in '45.

doobie

Give your child junk food and no money.  Make the school give them free food.  Or if they throw away their childs food, sue them for throwing away personal property.

Oh wait, the schools are governments unto themselves and can do whatever they want because it's for the 'betterment' of everyone.

*crosses his fingers that if he ever has kids they can be home schooled*.

I started a thread about this stuff, I think it was last year about one of those Scholastic magazines my daughter came home with.   It's funny how they've bought this issue up around Halloween for the 2nd year in a row, isn't it?

She doesn't go to public school anymore but last year she said the kids weren't allowed to bring in candy except for Halloween day and the teachers bought in their own sodas but kids weren't allowed to.  She said they had to include apples in the school lunches but also served ice cream and other stuff.  She thought the whole thing was just plain stupid.

The U.S. wasn't that much better.

Fluff and Stuff

The article supported the idea.  I guess the newspaper, the experts, and government people all agree that parents have no rights.

BTW, it still is a nice town to visit.

This is an interesting problem. In essence, what's being 'mandated' actually is for the betterment of the children. However, being forced to comply negates the overall benefit that would be gained.

What is "good" for anyone is always debatable. If I was a parent of a teen or younger kid I would want them to enjoy what they want to enjoy instead of worrying about what health Nazi's tell them. If you want some chips or a Fluffernutter (tm)  go ahead but I would also raise them to appreciate exercise which would balance it out.

Granted. I am the parent of two children and when they were infants and toddlers, I was in charge of their nutrition. As they got older, I gave way to their choices, knowing that leading by example is the best teaching. They eat differently than I do, and I don't comment too much about it unless they're obviously run down or ill. I try to be judicious. However, my comment above was directed at the fact that we all "know" that eating too much sugar, fat, and preservatives isn't good for our overall health in the long run, and that limiting these foods is much better for children in particular. I disagree completely with the state stepping in with any kind of control over anyone. I was only saying that it's interesting that this is a rare situation in that for the first time I've been aware of, the attempt at control is basically about something good. My apologies if I'm not making that clear.

Heh, this is mAssachusetts. They don't give health care to residents; they force them to buy it from "private" insurance cartels.

Of course: The Prussians invented government schools.
