Elderly Women Arrested Over Football

In yet another heartbreaking example of people turning to the state rather than being a neighbor comes this story from Ohio.

An 89 year old woman was arrested and taken out of her home for theft. She faces a fine of $1,000 and six month in jail. Her "crime"?

After the neighbor kids repeatedly kicked a football into her yard, Edna took the football.

The children then called the cops, who sent out officers to charge this lady with theft.

In a twist of karmic fate, the football (valued at $15) is being held as evidence so the damn statist kids didn't get it back. (*snicker*)

doobie

I bet if she was hit by the football, it would have been "kids, will be kids", not "assault with a deadly/dangerous weapon" (even if it sent her to the hospital).

is there anywhere that there are no cops?

Mark's city doesn't have a cop, but the county strongarms claim control of his area. :(

The closest place with no cops might be Somalia, though depending on how you define "cop" it may be difficult.

I heard a caller today on a radio show, who happens to know this lady. She said it's not a case of grumpy old woman, it's a case of having her landscaping repeatedly trampled. She's only asked that the kids walk around her shrubs and flower beds and come down the driveway (these kids play basketball constantly, and balls frequently land in her yard). If she's outside, they will walk around. If not, they tromp through her garden and destroy plants.

She got fed up. Can't blame her.

Why don't people ever get as fed up with the police?

Do you even have to ask? I highly doubt the kids were about to round up a bunch of their buddies and kick down her door in an attempt to kidnap or kill her.
