From Tony Lekas:

he class schedule for Firearms classes held at Wilson Hill Pistol Club has been set for the rest of 2005.  We run three types of classes:

-NRA Basic Pistol - This is a beginner class.  It is good for a student with little or no experience with handguns or for someone who did some shooting as a child but wants to get back into it.  It covers:

    * safe firearm handling
    * firearm parts and operation
    * ammunition and its function
    * shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
    * how to select, clean and store a firearm
    * review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills

-NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home - To take this course you should have completed the NRA Basic Pistol course or have equivalent experience.  This course covers:

    * Introduction to Defensive Shooting
    * Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
    * Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership and Use of Deadly Force
    * Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
    * Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
    * Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities

-NRA Women on Target Shoot - This is a NRA Basic Pistol class for women only.

The charge for the classes is $50.00.  If you use our ammo we ask that you kick in another $10.00.  (Sometimes the NRA subsidizes the Women on Target classes so they may be cheaper.)  We provide a variety of firearms for students although you are welcome to bring your own.  If you have a firearm for personal protection use it is best if you bring it if you attend the NRA Basic Personal Protection class.  The instructors are volunteers.  The cost covers expenses.  You will come away from the class with a book, certificate and other materials.  The current book for the Personal Protection course is quite good.

The certificate you get from either of these courses will meet the requirement for a Maine Carry License.  I can also provide students that complete any of these courses the MA State Police Certificate required to get a MA License to Carry.  I can also explain what you have to do to get one.  It is a real mess but it is possible.

We are glad to accept youth for the classes.  Some quite young children have done well.  If they are under 18 they will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a note from a parent or guardian.  Consider the physical and mental maturity level of the child before you bring them.  If you have any questions contact me.  If you are going to bring more than 1 or 2 children let me know in advance.  We want to have more instructors per student, especially on the range, for them.

Classes start at 9:00 am sharp.  How long they last depends on the number of students, the amount of discussion, and how much students want to shoot.  For the basic pistol you should plan to be able to be there till 5 but we may end earlier.  There is a LOT of material in the Personal Protection class and it tends to generate a lot of discussion.  You should plan to be able to be there till 6 although it might end earlier.  Usually the instructors are willing to stay later if you have questions or want to work on your shooting.

Wilson Hill Pistol Club is in Manchester NH.  Take Exit 6 off of Rt 93 and head East on Candia Rd.  Turn Right onto Lake Shore Rd which is shortly after you pass the Goldenrod Restaurant on your right.  The club is a nondescript brown wood building in a residential neighborhood.  It will be on the right just after Friend Street.  http://wilsonhillpistol.org/images/mapimage.gif

All of the scheduled class are on Saturdays.  We sometimes have students who always work on Saturdays.  If you are in that situation let me know and we will schedule a class on a Saturday or in the evenings.
