<< The Manchester police department will be examined for voluntary accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., police said.

A team of three assessors from the commission will arrive in the city on Saturday, Dec. 13, to examine the department's policies, procedures, management, operations and support services. The assessors will review written documentation, interview people, and visit offices to verify compliance with the commission's standards, police said.

The department was initially accredited in 1990. The new assessment will be the fifth time the department has sought re-accreditation. It has been successful in all of its previous attempts, police said.

Members of the community are invited to comment on the department's compliance as part of the process, police said. Phone calls will be accepted by assessors at 628-6111 on Monday, Dec. 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A public hearing will also be held that day at 7 p.m. at the public service community room at 780 Commercial St. Calls and comments are limited to 10 minutes. Copies of the commission standards are available at the police department at 351 Chestnut St., police said.>>
