At the compound in Grafton there is a S-10 with 4WD that is quite a workhorse.

Is it for sale or are you just recommending the model?

Lloyd Danforth

The model.  I don't know the specifics, but, it has 4WD, a lot of power and does a lot of towing and hauling jobs.  It's not an Ark like the bigger pick-ups.

Has anyone had a good experience at any particular used car place? I'm thinking my best bet is to go to a dealership. They typically have some moderately used vehicles, perhaps even with partial warranties. I think that would be my best bet. That way I can discover any clear issues and get them resolved. I'm pretty sure there are no really experienced mechanically inclined porcs, but I'd love a recommendation on someone who can do a thorough inspection of the vehicle for me. I'd pay a fair price, of course.

4WD might actually be overkill for my needs. I'm mainly looking to be able to carry some used furniture and pick up supplies from the hardware stores, maybe bags of wood pellets at some point, etc.

Hey Dale, Try Car Max.com

They are a nationwide dealership that puts cars in catagories, based on make/model then lists them with 1 no haggle price.   All vehicles are inspected and "guaranteed."

There's one changing cost factor and that is each vehicle comes with a "shipping price" based simply on how far it has to be shipped to get to you (or you could travel and pick it up...I would imagine there's at least a couple dealerships in your home state.

Anyway, they have a tremendous selection because they use dealerships all over the country and I find the prices to be really good.

Early mover Jackie Casey works at Toyota of Nashua, I believe.  She may be able to refer you to a trustworthy salespeep there.

FYI: a RWD truck is close to the absolute worst thing to drive in the snow.  Your FWD car is 10x better/safer/easier in the snow.  A 4WD truck is great, but RWD...forget about it!  Most trucks that aren't 4WD are RWD, BTW.   :)

speaking of absolute worst, I would have to nominate a van that I used to own as the potential winner in this category....(i can see myself sliding off the road now!)

paying for cars what dealers pay for cars..now you're talkin'!

jose: do you know if they do any type of inspection of these vehicles or let you test drive before bidding?  I know of one enormous dealer auction,  located in PA in think, that puts all the vehicles through an inspection and also lets you test drive them, but it's not open to public.

I have one for sale but it may be out of your budget. 1996 F-350 diesel dually. It has a back seat that folds out into a bed, TV, DVD and an in-dash shortwave radio so you can listen to the world fall apart. I'd be willing to bring it to you as an excuse to finally get to NH. $9,000.00

That's awesome about the back folding into a bed...talk about a road tripping machine....I know Diesels aren't cheap, you could try advertising it on craigslist in NH (can't remember if they  have a section for autos,  but ebay does ) or in maybe in the bigger cities, Manchester, Concord..Portsmouth, being on the border of Maine naturally has allot of people in Maine who read their Paper...

What I want to see is side by side photos of Dale sitting in his VDUB BUG and then a pic of him sitting in this truck.  No doubt it would
certainly be a new image.
