But he was born to an American mother so he is legally entitled to be a U.S. citizen.

Is my cousin less of a American because her mom is American, her Dad Irish, and she was born in Kilgarven?

McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone BTW.

I have no love for either man's political agenda but the citizenship issue is like  :deadhorse:

I know there was an attempt to stop political conversations, but since that is hopeless, maybe having a single political thread might be helpful. That way we have somewhere to dump, I mean put this crap and people can put the thread on ignore if they want.

They'll just love to hear all about this at the NHLA forum where you can help yourself to a smorgasbord of political discussions.

I don't care where he was born. My issues with who is president have to do with whether people consented to having him as their ruler and the voting process doesn't satisfy that for me by any far stretch of the imagination.

True, but, Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5 of the US Constitution states:

QuoteNo Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

I realize that the Constitution is effectively a piece of toilet paper, but the gummint still usually pretends to sort of follow it.

Am I missing something or is a person born to an American mother not a natural born citizen?

It is if your parentage is by non US citizens, and you were born outside of the United States or it's territories, that you apply to become a naturalized citizen I thought.

If my Mom went into early labor and I was born in France, I'd still be a natural US citizen.

If Obama was born in another country other then the USA - he can not be president of teh country according to The Constitution.

doesn't matter, even if Obama wasn't president there would be another douche to take his place.

doobie

When Obama was born a person was a natural born citizen if one of their parents were a US citizen regardless of where they were born.

What is at issue is how did a US citizen go to school in Indonesia when only Indonesian students and people of Islam could go to school there?

Second, When McCain was born, a person was only a natural born citizen if they were born in the US or on US property (military bases).

McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone which was NOT us terroritory or a military base.  McCain is the one who is NOT the natural born US citizen by the law at the time of his birth.

That sums it up pretty well.

Apparently the supreme court is considering the natural born citizen question.

Not today, they're not. The Berg case is still alive, but I doubt it fares any better. The Supremes are terribly afraid of rocking the status quo.
