When I receive my census in the mail, I'll be printing this out, taping it to the envelope, and sticking it back in the nearest USPS drop box.

Yes, I saw that. It is funny and I sure will use it *with* my the LP postcard. It IS constitutional for them to ask where and how many. But that is it.

Not everything in the constitution is good. I don't think I even turned in a form in 2000 :-*

Lloyd Danforth

The census is in the Constitution, because, they need to know how many people are in each state, so, they can apportion the correct number of representitives to the House of representitives.

Russell Kanning

I guess some of us with anarchist leanings just don't care :D

Lloyd Danforth

Leanings, Shit!  I'm an Anarchist.  I don't expect to see Anarchy in my lifetime, but, if if the Feds would adhere to the Constitution, we would see a lot of the changes that we seek.

Russell Kanning

You are right about that...and this census stuff is the least of our worries in some ways. :)

John

I'm fine with a simple census, but the rest of the questions (wich I remember from last time)  . . . they can go stuff them somewhere.

I went through this with them before, and you'll be amazed at how persistent these little buggers are. They start to show up at the door (instead of just in your mail box) . . . then they start bothering your neighbors to see if they can answer questions about you . . . they want answers . . . You'd think they had nothing better to do.  Oh silly me.  They don't.

"The actual Enumeration shall be made ... every subsequent Term of ten Years" --Article I, Section 2, Clause 3

As much as I am an anarchist, I think the following Heinlein quote is appropriate to describe how I feel:

"I'm a rational anarchist ... A rational anarchist believes that concepts such as 'state' and 'society' and 'government' have no existence save as physically exemplified in the acts of self-responsible individuals. He believes that it is impossible to shift blame, share blame, distribute blame ... as blame, guilt, responsibility are matters taking place inside human beings singly and nowhere else. But being rational, he knows that not all individuals hold his evaluations, so he tries to live perfectly in an imperfect world ... aware that his effort will be less than perfect yet undimayed by self-knowledge of self-failure."

I do not believe that the United States Constitution has any real authority, but I understand that in our current society we need some way to control and reign in government. We need to have a way to decide how many Representatives there will be from each state and the census is fine for that purpose. Just a head count, that's all. No race issues, no income issues, no questions about how many sinks or condoms you have -- just a count of all persons in your house.
