What do you think about bald women?

My wife and I have had the FSP as a goal in mind for a while. Admittedly, I've been more excited about it that her up until the past few weeks. She's been feeling more and more confidant about everything in general because of her job, her friends and whatever.\

About three weeks ago, I took the dramatic step of shaving my head bald entirely. I've had a receding hairline since I was 15 (I'm 25 now) and shaving my head bald was one of most liberating things I've ever done. It was the first time in 5 year I felt confidant enough to send my image to other people (my grandparents). The point is, to me, it's was an empowering and positive experience, even thought I was scared as hell up until I started that first shave.

Now, my wife has begun to play with the idea of shaving her head bald. On one hand, it's a self-confidence booster that might help her build a self-identity that's more strong that her current. On the other hand, she has a friend who was diagnosed with larynx cancer a year ago and in the time since it has spread to various parts of her body and MAY have spread to her brain. Her friend is convinced that brain cancer will kill her.

My wife is also a cannabis user in a medical cannabis state that doesn't have any legislative organization around medical cannabis. Cannabis helps her depression, musculature issues and pain management. Her activist spirit is being awakened as I'm doing FSP outreach to the "liberals" and as she's identifying why prohibition is harming her ability to live a productive life. that said, she wants to take stands for cannabis HERE but more broadly with the FSP in the near future.

Okay, if you're with me by far, you care. So here's the question. "What do you think about bald women?" The opinions of Porcs hold SOME weight that the opinion of "regular people" doesn't. She's planning a future around a community of liberty lovers who are accepting and encourage individualism, yet those who she instantly rules out as willing to conform to status quo... not so much.

So... what do you think?

I think they will need a good hat, NH winters are cold.

It wouldn't bother me, I have actually worked with a bald women before at my recent job and she was a employee under me.

I think most people might do a "double take" but nothing more than that.

I shave my head to the skin once a week. Women... are odd looking with shaved heads. I'd advise her to keep the hair.

Hats are an option. :) Of course, I've shaved my head and it's not NEARLY as sentitive to cold as people think. Drafts might be a problem, but New Hampshire has hat stores... right? :P

She's prepared to deal with questioning people. Depending on who questions her, she can make it a position of personal choice or compassion to a chemo patient who is also bald... Without sounding pointed, the question is what YOU would think? Would you think she's an attention whore, would you instantly assume a bald woman was a chemo patient, et cetera....

(I think she's already decided to do it on Dec 26, 2008. She's confidant enough to handle criticism but seriously wants to know what people think.)

Are you thinking Natalie Portman in "V For Vendetta" or Susan Powder? If hair length mattered to you, would you suggest she grow it out (which I personally prefer over shoulder length) or go bald? Maintainance is a very REAL issue that I failed to address.

Someone else's personal appearance isn't any of my concern, though only thing I did when I have seen bald women is do a sorta double take in determining if it was a Man, or Women.

I understand your dislike in shoulder length hair, I think short or long is more enjoyable from my perspective but as I said each person has there own body to do with it as they like. I don't think I would think she was an "attention whore or cancer patient" I would most likely just think she liked being bald, lol.

I know I have thought about being bald with a go-tee, but it's just not for me.

My wife has cancer and lost all her hair because of the chemo treatment. I still think she is the sexiest woman in the world, even at 70 years of age.

fuckin right on.

it doesn't matter what i or anyone else thinks... it's what she thinks & to a lesser extent what she thinks - I'm sure you already know that though ;)

for me - really depends on the woman - Natalie Portman is pretty much hot no matter what... Brittany Spears - bald did not work.

At worst - she doesn't like it & wears a wig until it comes back.

however, you are now obligated to post pics ;D

KBCraig

When Sinéad O'Connor did it in the '80s and was perceived as a complete freak, I thought she was totally hot (politics aside). Women are no different from men: some have truly ugly heads, so it depends on the shape of the head and one's personal style.

Admittedly, men have more room for forgiveness, since there are plenty of men out there with shaved heads and multiple chins on their necks.

It's a bold statement. Any woman trying it has to be prepared for the reaction.

memenode

For some reason imagining bald women reminds me of some scifi scenes... so it kinda seems futuristic, sort of smooth and clean, as if hair is the clutter...

Erm.. but still, personally I do like to see women with hair a little more, not necessarily long. Ultimately though I think it's her decision and the most important thing is for her to actually feel better off for it. And if she's not sure then the question is, is the excitement and exercise of courage by making the leap worth it even if she turns out not to like it?

Cheers

Why would someone base their decision on what a bunch of strangers think? I mean there will be many who dislike, many who like and more who are indifferent. If I was a woman who needed approval from others I probably would not shave all the hair off my head. There will always be people who will criticize, it's just a no win situation so my advice is, fuck everyone!

If you are a good looking woman, being bald won't matter much. Just think Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta.

Exactly. :) I'm not asking for "permission". I ask for opinions. She's already pretty much decided to do this.

So far, I'm getting pretty neutral responses. I didn't mean to construe this as a permission post. It's an inquiry into how people are preceived. My wife seems to think that people will instantly assume that she's respecting her friend while I'm not sure sure. She's, at the same time, thinking that her boss will flip out because of the dramatic change. None of these reactions matter in terms of her making the leap, but they matter in what she should prepare for going into this.

Admittedly, it's just a hairstyle. :)

Bald women are freakin' hot!! I'm trying to convince the companion of how cool it would be to both have shaved heads together. She's still not sold on the idea and I'm not sure if she'll ever be haha...

Creepy.

And Kevin - I'm thinking any woman with a shaved head not for medical reasons, is unattractive. Short hair is one thing. Shaved is weird. Just my honest opinion.

ByronB

While I definitely support whatever a girls wants to do to herself appearance-wise I would have to say it's a little too weird for me to encourage, I'm sure that some girls could pull "the look " off but all to often IMO they kinda lose their feminine appearance with the loss of their hair. So I guess as long as you are both okay with it that is all that really matters.
