What kind of internet access is available in NH? Which areas of NH have this? Which areas would be bad if you needed broadband? Is Satellite internet an option?

Russell Kanning

most of NH is just fine for multiple broadband options.... you have to be in a pretty small place to be limited 8)

Verizon FIOS is going in around Portsmouth.. hopefully it will be everywhere by the time we get up there.

mmmm.... FIOS.

I have a Gateway laptop computer.  Are there areas in Manchester where I'd be able to get wireless internet?  Is there a library or other place(s) with internet access?  If I can get free internet access then I have no reason to use Comcast...
:)

Unless, of course, you want to get on the Internet at home...

After someone asked on the FSP forum I started putting together a list of ISPs by town. It's still incomplete though. And wireless wasn't even a consideration....

Ideally I would want internet at home, but since I don't know exactly where I'm going to stay, and will probably not have internet access wherever I stay, I'd like to know about some places I could go to get online.  Plus, it'd be nice to get out and at least be around/possibly say 'hello' to other NH residents...

Thanks Money Dollars for the list!  Hey, did you make it to the Liberty Forum?

Well, there IS that...
Still, I like to go home and be alone sometimes...

I get faster speeds than FIOS on my cable connection
!!!

Rural areas are great for high speed because almost nobody else is using all that bandwidth... I've gotten over 6MBps download lately, and 3-4MBps upload.

(IIRC the lowest tier of fios is in the 10-15 megabit per second range, the speeds I described I'm getting are megabytes.)

That list is not complete for some towns. Deering has Comcast for some areas (I have it), has TDS (dial-up or DSL) in other areas, and has GSI.net (DSL) for some areas. I would imagine that other small towns are the same way

I said it wasn't complete. The actual cable companies don't want to tell me where they provide service! It's very odd.

I've got Comcast (formerly Adelphia) broadband in Merrimack.

Only dial up here in Croydon New Hampshire but you can not beat the small time atmosphere and low taxes.  We have about 800 people here and the town has not grown more than 50 people in the last 50 years.  We still have a one room school house.  We moved from Illinois and our lifestyle has improved 10 fold because of the fewer taxes we pay, the lower cost of living and the lack of crowds.
