I believe college is overrated and overpriced, and I will not be paying for my children to go (maybe I'll help out a little).  Furthermore, I think it is a good idea to look into alternatives to the typical approach of going off for 4 years and returning with thousands of dollars of loan debt.  For one, some employers will pay for classes.  Another alternative is tuition-free schools.  There are not many of them, and the ones that there are tend to be eccentric.  However, these are worth considering:

A few of the colleges seem particularly well-suited for engineering students.

It is also worth mentioning that Dartmouth College now offers full-rides for students whose families make less than $75K per year:

Thanks!

I knew about Berea and College of the Ozarks. CoO has a great museum, including the original Beverly Hillbillies truck; we're going to Branson this summer, and will probably stop by.

The Dartmouth thing is good. No doubt all of the Ivies could get by just fine on their endowments with zero tuition, if they would make admission 100% competitive (no legacies, no advantages offered based on "background").

I've seriously considered trying something like this in the past - right now I lack focus.
