Yeah, the elephant video almost made me cry too but it made me feel frustrated at the human race so that stopped me from crying.  I'm not saying there aren't any good people in the world but a lot of times I do feel like stories of animals like this puts the human race to shame. :-\

I loved your video but those rats were a pain in the butt to that poor cat, they're lucky the cat is very patient. :D

Thank you, rainey!

You are welcome!  :)    How are you and Gloria?

Rainey! What are you trying to say?!?!? A title like this thread and you ask "How are you and Gloria?"?!?!?!? :o ;D ;D ;D

We are fine. Gloria is still looking for work. I am doing well. The treadmill at the gym shows I can walk 2.5mph for 1/4 mile! Woohoo!

Oh my gosh, I never thought of the way that could be taken, the "how are you and Gloria", and the name of this thread, I'm sorry.   So many people I know are looking for work, it's scary that they're not finding any, I wish her the best of luck.  Wow, you can probably walk faster than me!

Rat Loves Cat

We just bought 3 rats and I just can't believe it, whimpy me that's afraid of frogs!    We went to the pet store to get dog food and we saw these 3 large rats, I thought their eyes were cute so anyways my 13 year old daughter fell in love with them of course.   I called Rick and he said it was up to me if I wanted to get them so I pretty much told my daughter, nah, I don't think so.  Then came the tears and I made a deal with her that if they could be snake food we'd get them, to save them.    Well I thought snakes only ate mice because they are cheaper but I was wrong according to the pet store people; so I followed through on my word and we have rats now.
The first night they were here I had a hard time getting to sleep and as I started to fall asleep I thought I heard a squeak and something brush past me so I screamed and almost gave Rick a heart attack.

There's no need to worry, rats make wonderful pets!  They're also much less "nippy" than hamsters, in my experience.  Actually, the only rat I ever had bite me was one that had been tormented by a cat and that I got as an adult.  Also, I never had a rat escape.  You can use a petshop cage, or make your own.  The biggest downside to them is that they have such short lifespans (only 2-3 years), and just like humans, are prone to all sorts of physical problems when they get older, and then break your heart when they die.

I must say that was a little crazy of you to get three at once when you've never had any, though!  And you will probably have to keep your cat(s) away from them.

Thanks for the info!  :)   Awww, that does sound very sad about the physical problems, I guess there isn't anything special I could feed them to keep them extra healthy, huh?    I bought the bag of rat chunks that they had been eating at the pet store.   Should I bring them to the vets for any certain thing or just accept that they get old and die quickly?

It was nuts to get 3 of them, I totally agree!  It was so hard seeing my daughter cry though when I said how about if we just get one.  She started crying because of the other 2 that would become snake food.  :P

Then after the purchase of a real big aquarium, grass dome house, 5 big parrot toys, ladder and tunnel, oh yeah, also an extra wire top to the aquarium to give them something to climb and more air, she let me know that she appreciated the fact that I listen to her feelings and take them into consideration and don't just blow her off like daddy does.  ::)

Oh yeah the cats live in the basement so there not even around the rats that are in the living room where I used to feel semi-safe to sleep in.    The cats get attention, we have a family room down there and the kids are down there a lot playing with them.

Well, there's no need to bring them in for checkups or innoculations or anything; there aren't any!  They can get parasites and infections, and in those cases a vet can give you medicine that can help.  When they get older, they have the same problems that people do: cancer, etc.  There's no cure for that stuff (actually, they'll probably find a cure for cancer in rats before they find one for people!)
