Yay!  :)

Next Friday, the 20th, I take 2 tests to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and then 2 weeks after I have to take more tests with the Red Cross to become licensed.

I'm nervous and I plan on studying alot when I can because this Sunday is me and my daughter's birthday and my twin sister of course then I have my oldest daughter coming up from Maryland on her birthday the week after.    :P  Oh yeah I almost forgot I have to go to Mass. too this Saturday, because my son's girlfriend and my grandson are staying with us for a couple of weeks so she can go to my graduation.

I see alot of trips to my bedroom with my study material.  ;D

Ha, ha!  Thanks Pat!  ;D

Great, now your really going to think I'm certifiable if you read up on my recent haunted house experiences.   It's really terrifying me and then on the humorous side I think to myself, sure this is just what I need more haunted stuff when I have everything else going on.   In fact, I just thought about it and I'm not studying  in my bedroom alone after what's happened this week!  :o

Looking on the brighter side, at least the house will be full of people!  :)

Thanks Pat!  :D   Job hunting is going to be rough because naturally alot of places want someone with experience and someone told me if I take a job with a temp agency the other LNAs will hate me because I won't know as much as them but I'd be making more $$.   So now I'm not sure what to do.

How does Gloria like her job?

I learned so much during clinicals, much more than just "techniques" and taking care of people.   I looked at people's pictures they had hanging in their rooms and would think of what their lives were like before and how sad it is to end up needing the type of care they needed.  I thought about my own health too and thought maybe if I stick with raw foods or just better food choices and exercising it might help me to be fit when I'm that age.   I had to do postmortem care too and when I got home I cried, it was so sad.

On a happy note there was this lady that the lnas said couldn't feed herself anymore; so I helped her to put food on her spoon and hold it, well before lunch was done she was feeding herself.  She still couldn't put her own food on the spoon though so I sat with her the next day too and before she was done lunch she was putting her own food on her spoon.  She was so cute because I'd get excited and say, "alright!" so everytime she fed herself she looked at me to make sure I was smiling.  :D

Working PRN with an agency is a good way to get hours, and get exposure to different employers. I know LVNs and RNs who don't work anything except temp work, because of the flexibility they have.

You sound like a natural, Rainey! Keep it up!

Gloria loves working with the elderly. She is completely in her element when she is working one-on-one with them.

Were they treated okay by the staff?  Sometimes I get sensitive and I don't want to start crying at my first day of work if the staff are mean to me.

It doesn't bother me at all if the residents are verbally mean to me but there was this tiny lady that kept trying to pinch my nipples and bite my face so she scared me.   I was told to F**k off so many times for just trying to dress someone or help them to the bathroom but they must be very frustrated so I understood.   I'd ask some residents what they wanted to wear because I wouldn't just want someone picking my clothes out for me everyday and feeling like I don't have a say in the matter but some of the people got mad at me because I asked too many questions. :P

Another thing too is that I'm really slow, (ha, ha to the jokes probably coming my way for that one), but it would take me forever to give a bed bath and make a bed, so that got on the other LNA's nerves and this was just through clinicals so can you imagine if I was working PRN?  They'd hate me, huh?  :-\

Good, I'm glad Gloria likes that, I do too.   I would like to work one-on-one also, it seems like I'd have more time to attend to more than just washing, dressing, and feeding the people.

I have loved elderly people forever when my sister and I were teenagers we would run errands for all the old ladies in the neighborhood, like buying lottery tickets, groceries, etc.   There was this one lady and her house was covered in roaches but she had no one else to help her so my sister and I would take out her trash, walk to the store for her and other stuff.  I would jump up and down like crazy when we left to make sure there were no roaches left on me, even her dog had them crawling on him.  It was such a shame.  :(

when I was a nursing student some of the female nurses were treated quite horribly by their patients, which led them to be given to me as patients.  Since I'm a man, all the old fogies kept calling me "doctor". . . I guess "doctors" get respect for some reason while the nurses clean up the crap (literally)

Hey Rainey!  Congrats on getting your LNA!  When the hell did you have time to do that with homeschooling, kids, grandkids, etc.???

Anton:  Are you a RN?

My daughter is graduating h.s. this year and wants to go into nursing.  She got accepted at a school, though, that doesn't have a nursing program.  Unfortunately she's now going to have to go 4 years and get her BS in a science, then go an additional year (?) for her RN.  It seems like it would just be simpler if she went to Concord Tech.

AntonLee

no, I'm not in nursing anymore.

Congrats Rainey!!
