Destruction of money

I'm willing to spare some money if others are willing to help.  I'd like to do a CD of burning 10 $100 bills (or possible 20 $50, or 50 $20 bills).  I'll also be burning silver at the same time.

I haven't set how much I'm willing to 'lose', but I'd like to raise $800 of the $1000 before doing this.  Would anyone be willing to donate to this?

Think of how much it'll help lower inflation for a nanosecond!

If you have $1000 to blow on some act of civil disobedience or other activism, you will lose my respect forever if burning it is your activity of choice.

Well, I thought if enough people gave FRNs it would lower the burden, but I guess FRNs really do have value!  I better start stocking up!

The FRN still trade for US coin, which is a metal based commodity currency... its just that a silver dollar would now be about the size of a dime... and a silver dime might not be something large enough to be convienently used.
So now each of the coins in circulation have been alloyed to lower cost metals to avoid Grensham's Law.
I still save pennies (especially those before 1983), because the innate value is close to face.

Planning something like this?

Yeah, pretty much, but with lots more money.... but I guess people aren't really keen on the idea, maybe someday.

I have talked about burning dollar bills with the message being that the government has made our money almost worthless.

Maybe a virtual money burn as a first step. I'll burn one and post a picture... if others do the same, well  8) :)

I guess for me, I'm not as anti-FRN as some here. I have no problem with the USD OTHER than the fact that it's centrally controlled. I LOVE money and items of value. As an "End the Fed" statement I can sort of see why you'd burn a FRN, but I don't know why you'd try to destroy silver.

If you wanna go for it, awesome. I support you. But I'm not interested enough to literally set money on fire. :) People accept those FRNs in all their Sharpie'd up glory for gas, and I'll need it to get to NH. :)

Even the AJ notes are centrally controlled... just Jesse is a nation unto himself.

since they are not totally useless ... I am unwilling to burn 100s

During WWII there were some Russians that burned their currency because it was cheaper than buying wood. I seem to recall some wiki commons images of this.

Personally, I'm curious as to how many FRNs a 7.62 x 39mm could penetrate, but I'm not in a position to find out with my own supply of said FRNs.

After being re-inspired by Ratty's post, being concerned about the inflation of the currency and how it will effect her babies future. Here is our first trial run of creating a "Money to Burn" image.

The government has money to burn, because our children will be paying the price of their reckless behavior. We are burning money to show how worthless they have made the money.
