If the NH Legislature opposes NCLB and the stimulus ('the' seems out of place with so many programs),
why not just refuse to accept the money?

If you read the article, you'll see that governors in some states are proposing just that.

Although it's at least as important to avoid PAYING for the stimulus, don't you agree? Or are you possessed of unlimited riches, so that you don't mind confiscatory taxes, hyperinflation, and having to sell your organs to buy food?

Quote'the' seems out of place with so many programs

It's like "the" plague, or "the" Mongol hordes, or "the" Greater Depression.

So anyway, are you going to be there March 4th?

I'm there too.
I figure the free state party can endorse this secession stuph ... and keep promoting it after the dems including the governor reject this plan

Anton we'll have to hook up. I'll be hanging around at the Liberty Bell, which is right in front of State House.

It seems Nh is not taking any money for "projects" according to this list http://www.stimuluswatch.org/project/by_state ...... We seem to be the only ones abstaining

I can see how work can be more important than meeting on the state house grounds on their timetable.

Of course they have to work if they want to keep their houses -- they have property taxes to pay. That means paying income tax too.

People work 5 months out of a year paying every last cent of that to just taxes (nothing else) and you think they have the time to drive to Concord -- on a workday?

I have a lot of work to do at my job. . . and they can let it sit there until Thursday.  This is important to me.

From the article:

Quote
"When you think about this claim that if a state believes a federal law is unconstitutional it can just ignore it, then I presume if a county believed a state law was unconstitutional it could just ignore it," Hesse said. "Really what's implicit in this is an unwillingness to recognize a lawful authority."

Yep, I agree 100%, but when he says it he makes it sound like it's a bad thing. haha.

That would be an issue of whether the stimulus and other programs are constitutional.
I find that many expenditures are unconstitutional... but occur through State collusion.
