hopefully Barskey will feel supported today in his small stand against the state

Small?  How is going to trial small?  That's pretty big compared to most people.

Hey thank you Mike. On my way home Monday night I had an encounter with the NY state police, and thanks to your's and Kat's PiMP my activism from the Alt Expo I left the cop a little disoriented. I also had a little bit of fun during an otherwise unpleasant situation.

That's awesome! Not that cops pulled you over, but that you were more comfortable dealing with them. What tactic did you use? What was your goal? Did you have success? :)

Well I left Dale's house at about midnight on Monday night. I started towards home and somewhere just past the NY VT border I got tired so I pulled over to sleep.

In about an hour I was startled by a man with a gun banging on my window. When I woke I was really out of it and just sat there for a few seconds until he attempted to open my door. It wouldn't have been locked if I hadn't thought of the Alt Expo when I got in the car that night.

I put down the window about an inch or 2. He claimed he couldn't hear me so I started the car turned on the heat and put the window down all the way. He asked me to shut the car off so I told him that if my window was going to stay open, then my heat was going to stay on.

I'll try and make this short, sorry. My goal was to just be on my way. He tried to accuse me of drinking, then asked where I came from and where I was going. My response was just pointing and saying "that way". He eventually asked to search my car, and I politely said "no thanks, I'm no longer tired now that you scared the hell out of me, so I'll just be on my way now." He then took my license and eventually brought it back and asked one more time to search the car. I declined and he let me go.

If your goal was to be on your way, you succeeded. Sounds like you did a great job.

Mike, I had to move up my departure. Best of luck with it and let me know if there's anything I can do.

The conciliations they're now making show better than anything I've yet seen that this Free State Project business is actually starting to work!  Though they still didn't allow SamIAm to bring his camera in, over his objections (and you know how Sam can object!), for the rest of the proceedings, it looked as though they'd met beforehand and worked out just what battles they were going to concede.   Jesse filed his hat motion, and hats were worn by several with no repercussion.  The goonlet who searched my backpack--the same one who'd found Charlie (!) "a danger to himself and others"--was sweetly solicitous even to my snide aside about his testimony.  The judge thanked us all for being such nice, polite young ladies and gentlemen "eben tho you mayy not agwree wiv ourh pwocejahs."  And most impressive, after Mike declared that he would not pay any fines levied, she didn't impose one.
Yes, there's still a lot of progress to be made, but the signs of what's already been accomplished indicate that it's going to continue to happen, as long as nobody gets too complacent and starts slacking off.
